Barkerville was the main town of the Cariboo Gold Rush in British Columbia, Canada and is preserved as a historic town. Cottonwood, including the Cottonwood Ranch and Cottonwood House, is an unincorporated settlement in the North Cariboo region of the Central Interior of British Columbia, Canada. Originally a ranch, it is located in the northern Cariboo Plateau, just 8 km northwest of Coldspring House, which is at the confluence of the Swift River and Lightning Creek, which is the beginning of the Cottonwood River. Lightning Creek was one of the more famous of the gold-bearing creeks of the Cariboo Gold Rush.

Bowron Lake Provincial Park is a provincial park located in northern British Columbia, Canada, about 117 kilometres east of the city of Quesnel. Other nearby towns include Wells and the historic destination of Barkerville. The park is known for its rugged glaciated mountains, cold deep lakes, waterfalls, and abundant wildlife. The main attraction is the 116 km canoe circuit through the Cariboo Mountains, which follows lakes, rivers, and short portages between waterways. This trip takes about a week to complete. An alternative to this trip is the shorter Westside route, which traverses Bowron, Swan, Spectacle, Skoi, Babcock, Unna and Rum lakes. This circuit takes two to four days. The park is open to a limited number of canoes and kayaks from May 15 to the end of September.

On our way back from the west coast, we pulled off the road at a stop that you could miss in a blink of an eye. The Three Valley Gap is a piece of historical property situated on the outskirts of Revelstoke Canada along the popular Trans Canada Trail. From the road, you see a red roof hotel and a magnificent mountain backdrop. But when you get within those walls... things change.
