Hike To Crabtree Falls (Part 2): Blue Ridge Parkway, North Carolina
Hike To Crabtree Falls (Part 2): Blue Ridge Parkway, North Carolina - Crabtree Falls is a 70-foot waterfalls along the Blue Ridge Parkway. Even though this is only a mile hike to the Crabtree falls, it is not on flat ground. We crossed little streams and wet slippery rocks. It is a strenuous mile hike downhill and then a moderate 1.5 miles uphill.
Crabtree is one of the stop on the Blue Ridgeway Parkway's map from the National Park Service. The trailhead is located outside Crabtree Falls Campground at mile marker 339.5 on the Blue Ridge Parkway.

WHO ARE WE?
We, Irwin and Victorina, left the corporate world and sold our furniture to go on an epic road trip of visiting all U.S. National Parks! Follow our journey - from letting go of our material possessions, preparing for the extended camping trip, and even the mistakes, joys, doubts and adventures we make along the way! We hope to inspire others to appreciate the beauty of Planet Earth.
Adventure begins in Feb 2017. We estimate this road trip will take us approximately 12 to 16 months. We know we will some amazing places and meet a lot of interesting people.
If you have an idea or suggestions for us for places to visit along the way, feel free to contact us!
NEW VIDEOS every Friday and Monday. If we miss a day, it is probably because we had no phone signal inside the park or we couldn't find any wifi access. If this is the case, we will upload our video as soon as we get any phone signal.

AMAZING Hike Through the CLOUDS! (Craggy Pinnacle, Asheville, NC)
Our last day in Asheville. Got some amazing breakfast and then spent the day hiking in and around Craggy Pinnacle. The fog made it a little hard to see.

Douglas Falls, Craggy Gardens, Blue Ridge Parkway, NC
A hike in a popular Blue Ridge Parkway area with a few twists to increase the solitude factor. I parked at the Graybeard Mountain Overlook and hiked the Mountains-to-Sea Trail east to take the Douglas Falls Trail down into Pisgah National Forest. Douglas Falls, on a tributary to Waterfall Creek, is a low flow waterfall. However, the setting is spectacular as the creek free falls 70 feet over a massive overhanging cliff. It is easy to walk under and explore, and easy to get soaked standing at the base of the waterfall. Trust me, it was freezing cold.
Next I continued east on the MST to explore the famous Craggy Gardens. Craggy Flats, the high point in Craggy Gardens, is a mixed heath/grassy bald with huge stands of Catawba rhododendron. I missed the flowers this year, but they typically bloom in mid-June. There are wonderful views west and north of the Great Craggy Mountains, and without the haze probably the Great Balsams, Great Smokies, and Roan Highlands.
I returned to Graybeard Mountain Overlook, but just before the parking lot I took an overgrown manway to Craggy Dome, the tallest peak in the range at 6,080 feet. It was tough, a mountain laurel hell on top, but I saw a sweet snail!
Hike distance was 12.3 miles in 7 hours and 10 minutes.
