The Staubbach Fall is a waterfall in Switzerland, located just west above Lauterbrunnen in the Bernese Highlands. The waterfall drops 297 metres from a hanging valley that ends in overhanging cliffs above the Weisse Lütschine.The stream, on reaching the verge of the rocky walls of the valley, forms a cascade so high that it is almost lost in spray before it reaches the level of the valley. After rain, and early in the season when fed by the melting snows, the Staubbach Fall is a very striking object. Bitsch, Swiss village with the unfortunate name

Bitsch village in the canton of Valais keeps losing the road sign that announces its name. Several have been stolen recently, perhaps because people find it amusing that such a word has to be displayed on the roadside, and want it as a jokey souvenir. Maybe they enjoy imagining residents giving their address over the phone to a female call centre agent, and having to repeat or even spell out the embarrassing name. In fact, of course, the German word ‘bitsch’ only resembles the English insult ‘bitch’, and is not a translation of it; and anyway, as you can see in my film, it is quite a nice place!
