Hike up Blue Mountain, Jamaica
In this video we hike up to the peak of Blue Mountain. At 2256 meters it is the highest point in Jamaica.
Trail to the peak of Blue Mountain: The trail starts at around 1254 meters and takes you through a series of switchbacks, ravines, rainforest, ridges, and coffee plantations ending up at the peak. Over all it is just over 10 km and can be easily done in 3 hours up and 2 hours down. Trail is very easy to navigate as it is almost always just a single track without any turn-offs, so no guide needed.
Getting to Blue Mountain: It is impossible to drive there unless you have some very capable 4x4. Rental car can't get there, believe me, we tried... So what are your options? Well, there are two:
1. You can easily make it to Mavis Bank where you can ask around and easily get a ride to the start of trail, but that will come out to around $60 US each way.
2. If you have an SUV you can get to Hagley Gap and get a ride to the trail from there for half the price, $30 US.
In both cases once you park your car a local will ask you for parking fee. Negotiate and pay him some Jamaican dollars when you get back, you car will be safe. May be even washed. I have a number for a guy who gave us a ride in his Suzuki if anyone wants it.
Also be prepared to pay the ranger at the ranger station half way. It was $200 jmd for locals or $20 us for tourists. We didn’t have enough money as tourist so pretended to be locals and that went well.
Some people get a ride to Wild Flower Lodge or Whitfield Hall and start the hike at 2 am to get to the peak at sunrise. This way there are almost no clouds at the peak and some say you can even spot Cuba. We got there around 12 pm and still had an amazing experience.

The only thing better than a beach getaway is escaping to a location that has crystal blue waters. Whether you’re participating in a water excursion or just lounging on a quiet beach, you’ll see the clearest, bluest water at these 13 locations:
1. Cocos Island, Costa Rica
This island is a prime location for scuba diving and snorkeling, not only because of the clear water but also because it’s inhabited by 300 varieties of fish and over 30 species of coral. Get that waterproof camera ready!

There are four main beaches: Karma Beach, Sunset Beach, Pattaya Beach, and Sunrise Beach. They each contain calm and shallow water that’s practically see-thru. It really doesn’t get any better than this!
5. Five-Flower Lake in Jiuzhaigou National Park, China
It is so clear, you can see straight through to the bottom. This location is also surrounded by brilliant vegetation and stunning waterfalls.
6. Jaco, East Timor
The locals are prohibited from visiting the island since it’s considered a holy place, but native fishermen gladly help tourists navigate their way to Jaco to enjoy its turquoise water.
7. Con Son, Vietnam
This area was previously known for its political history and as the home to prison inmates. But today, it’s known for being a tropical paradise, covered in pristine white sand, and visitors can enjoy the breathtaking views of the turquoise water.
8. Islas del Rosario, Colombia
Pick from any of the tiny, relatively uninhabited islands and you can enjoy the crystal clear waters lined by white sand beaches. Then, throw on some snorkeling gear and take a plunge into the water to view Colombia’s largest coral reef with your own two eyes.
9. Havelock Island, India
It’s not easy to make the trip to Havelock Island, but it’s worth it. Catamaran ferries make the 90-minute trip from Port Blair to this beach. Once you arrive, you can see firsthand just how clear the water is for yourself.
10. The Maldives
The Maldives is known for its luxury resorts and lavish accommodations, but it’s also well-known for its gorgeous blue waters. Rent an overwater bungalow in the middle of the Indian Ocean, and you’ll be surrounded by the most beautiful turquoise-colored water.
11. Egremni Beach, Greece
It is a favorite because of the brilliant blue hue of the ocean. The treacherous trek to get there means that Egremnoi Beach isn’t a crowded destination, so you can enjoy the gorgeous views of the gem-colored ocean in peace.
12. Lake Louise, Alberta, Canada
The lake is one of many inside the national park that has turquoise water that you have to see to believe. To up the selling point, this lake is surrounded by jaw-dropping mountains and lush vegetation.
13. Palawan, The Philippines
If the jungle-filled mountains don’t take your breath away, you’ll be in awe once you take a peek at the crystal clear lagoons and picturesque beaches with emerald-colored waters.

Highlights of travel through Jamaica!
An ire 6-day tour of Jamaica! We drove our rental to Bob Marley's home and mausoleum (disappointing tourist trap!) on our way to the Blue Mountains. After a few days of hiking, drinking coffee, and exploring the east coast, we made our way over to the Negril on the west coast to unwind and relax along the beaches and bars. An overall fantastic way to see the countryside and enjoy what Jamaica has to offer.

This 4 hour classic road trip runs 105 miles along the crest of the Blue Ridge Mountains in Shenandoah National Park. The kaleidoscope of wildflowers and foliage put on a colorful year-round nature show. And the route connects with the Appalachian Trail.
8. Historic Route 66, Chicago to Los Angeles
The Mother Road is no longer a major transcontinental conduit. It takes a little back-roads know-how, but you can still essentially work your way from Chicago to LA along this nostalgic route, passing through the heartland of the US with all its kitschy diners, classic motels and goofy roadside attractions.
