Queen's Head at Bramfield

Bramfield is a village and civil parish in the east of the English county of Suffolk. It is 5 miles south of the market town of Halesworth on the A144 road between Halesworth and the A12 road, one of the main arterial routes through the county. The village is 24 miles north-east of the county town of Ipswich and 15 miles south-west of the port of Lowestoft. The East Suffolk railway line between Lowestoft and Ipswich passes close to the west of the village with Halesworth railway station being the nearest station.

WALKING IN HERTFORDSHIRE | GREAT AND LITTLE HORMEAD

This 4 mile day walk in and around the villages of Great and Little Hormead in Hertfordshire was completed by myself and Candice.

The weather was decent for this time of year (no more snow!) and the route mostly traversed footpaths across arable land and beside streams, with a short section or two of country lanes.

The churches of each village were the main highlights on this short stroll. Sadly the oldest of the two was closed due to renovation work by the Churches Conservation Trust. It does date back to Norman times after all! Even the pub was closed!

This is the third part of our visit to Datchworth, Hertfordshire's most haunted village and our look at Clibbon's Post erected on the road between Datchworth and Bramfield to mark the famous highwayman Walter Clibbon.

Around 8.7 miles of walking in central Hertfordshire on a decent early Winter's day.
Setting out from the station, the walk crosses fields and woods to arrive at Bull's Green. Then, it's on through Bramfield Woods, before crossing more fields to arrive in the village of Tewin. Then, it's more field margins before the return to Welwyn station.
