St. Lawrence & Atlantic Railroad in Richmond, Quebec

A look at QG 3102 moving some rail cars around in Richmond, Quebec. The train engine is running along the rail line that is parallel to Main Street or Rue Principal with the crossing at Rue Craig. The building to the right is the historic Gunter's Bar.

The camera was not on a tripod, rather it was on top of a garbage can. The impact of the train shook the ground and subsequently the camera - you can see it move position when the train engine passes the location.

The rail line was originally opened in April, 1853 as the St. Lawrence and Atlantic Railroad. A few months later, it was absorbed by Grand Trunk Railroad and eventually was absorbed in Canadian National Rail (CNR). CNR sold the entire railway from Montreal to Portland, Maine in 1989.

The line is currently under Genesee & Wyoming Inc. which operates the Quebec-Gatineau Railway and, since 1998, this St. Lawrence & Atlantic Railroad. It currently runs from Portland to Saint-Rosalie near Montreal where it connects with the main CNR line.

Apparently, the engine is a EMD QP40. Richmond is located between Drummondville and Sherbrooke in Quebec, beside the Saint-Francois River.
