Almost the entire city is located within Stearns County, with only a small portion in Pope County. The Stearns County portion of Brooten is part of the St. Cloud Metropolitan Statistical Area.

Owned by Cedar Fair, the park opened in 1976 and now features over 75 rides and attractions including eight roller coasters. Valleyfair also has a water park called Soak City which is included with the price of admission. Cedar Point and Valleyfair were the first two parks in the Cedar Fair chain and a combination of the park names – cedar and fair – were used to name the company.

The Minnesota Landscape Arboretum is a 1,137-acre horticultural garden and arboretum located about 4 miles west of Chanhassen, Minnesota at 3675 Arboretum Drive, Chaska, Minnesota. It is part of the Department of Horticultural Science in the College of Food, Agricultural and Natural Resource Sciences at the University of Minnesota, and open to the public every day of the year except Thanksgiving and Christmas. An admission fee is charged. It is the Upper Midwest's largest public garden. The arboretum's earliest area was established in 1907 as the Horticultural Research Center, which developed cold-hardy crops such as the Honeycrisp apple and Northern Lights azaleas. Paisley Park Records was an American record label founded by musician Prince in 1985, which was distributed by and funded in part by Warner Bros. Records. It was started in 1985, following the success of the film and album Purple Rain. The label shares its name with Prince's recording complex Paisley Park Studios and the song Paisley Park on his 1985 Around the World in a Day album. Paisley Park was opened to the public as a museum and memorial to Prince following his death. October 28, 2016 is officially known as Paisley Park Day in the city of Chanhassen to recognize the opening of the museum.

This video is from our storm chase on May 1st, 2012 in which MaryLynn and I saw a brief tornado near Sedan, MN. We followed this storm from near Glenwood, MN to east of St. Cloud, MN. The supercell had several wall clouds along the way, one that passed directly over the St. Cloud area. The storm produced a photogenic, mothership mesocyclone to the east of town before getting swallowed up by other storms in the vicinity.
