Montmartre, Paris ... Off the Tourist Track
This is a look at the hilly Montmartre area of Paris, with emphasis on the parts of the butte that are off the well-worn tourist track.
I've already made a video that shows the touristy parts of Montmartre, such as Sacré-Cœur basilica and the artists' square (place du Tertre). You can find that on my channel, or there's a link to it at the end of this video. This considerably longer video explores just about everything except those touristy areas. Of course, all of Montmartre (and all of Paris) attracts tourists, but the density of tourists declines by at least a factor of 100 once you are off the beaten track.
There is a great deal to see in Montmartre, and this video cannot do it proper justice in 38 minutes. It's much more interesting to walk through this neighborhood than it is to see a video about it. However, I've tried to capture as much of a reasonable cross-section of Montmartre as I could, for those who don't or won't have the opportunity to see it in person.
The video shows places like the rue Lepic, avenue Junot, place Dalida, rue Cortot, rue Saint Vincent, rue des Trois Frères, rue des Abbesses, rue Caulaincourt, rue Lamarck, the Suzanne Buisson garden, the two main cemeteries on the butte, assorted stairways, other gardens, and points of interest (such as several shooting locations from the movies Amélie and Ronin), and so on.
If this videos seems quiet, that's because Montmartre is a lot quieter than the rest of Paris, since the twisty little streets discourage through traffic.

Places to see in ( Orleans - France ) Parc Louis Pasteur
The Louis Pasteur Park or Shepherd park is a public garden French four hectares, established in 1927 and located in the center of Orleans , north of the Loire , in the department of Loiret and the region Center-Val de Loire. The garden is located in the perimeter of the natural region of the Loire Valley registered in World Heritage of UNESCO; it is one of the three large gardens of Orleans with the Floral Park of the Source and the garden of plants. It takes its name from the French scientist xix th century Louis Pasteur , particularly famous for his work on vaccination .
In the immediate vicinity of schools Pothier Jean Zay and Benjamin Franklin , the General Council of Loiret , the Louis Pasteur Park is part of a square formed by the streets Eugene Vignat, Jules Lemaitre, Ferdinand Buisson and Peter the first of Serbia. It is located in the Saint-Vincent district of Orleans, about 900 meters north of the right bank of the Loire , in the natural region of the Loire Valley .
The site is devoted to the cultivation of the vine until the middle of the xviii th century. In 1786 , the bishop of Orleans Louis Sextius Jarente of La Bruyère made the decision to remove the cemeteries located inside the ramparts of Orleans for public health reasons. Two new cemeteries are created to replace them and in particular that of the Champ-Carré renamed by the Saint-Vincent suite on the site of the current Pasteur park. A door carved out of the former Saint-Samson church of the Jesuits is arranged to mark the entrance to the cemetery.
The Louis Pasteur Park is designed according to the plans of the landscape architect Édouard Gitton and the first tree species chosen by the horticulturists Eugène Turbat , Léon Chenault and René Barbier. From a flat topography, about 110 meters above sea level, the park is organized in a part of French garden , with traditional paths and massifs around the miniature boat basin, and a more landscaped part with big trees and large lawns. It is decorated with a fountain flowing on a basin, aligned in the axis of the Sainte-Croix cathedral of Orleans .
Attributed as a deposit to the city of Orleans by the Louvre Museum in Paris , two statues allow to decorate the garden, The Human Source of Felix Charpentier and The First Roof of Maxime Real del Sarte. The city of Orleans completes the works by the following sculptures: Naked woman slaying the Eagle of Villeau, The Sculpture , marble of Leon Fagel , The Man with the Wolf , marble of Georges Jacquot.

200 year old French farmouse in the foothills of the Pyrenees FOR SALE
Overview
Beautifully framed by fig trees and lilac bushes, this 200 year old former farmhouse has been recently restored to extremely high standards. The ground floor has been laid to tile and all upstairs floors have new sanded and varnished floorboards.
Situation
Situated in the foothills of the Pyrenees, 30 miles from the Spanish border and within easy reach of airports and ski stations.
Roughly equidistant from both Pau and Toulouse airports, the region is easily accessible by air, rail and road. There are TGV train stations at Tarbes and Toulouse and the region is well served by the extensive regional autoroute network. This location therefore provides great accessibility to both summer and winter activities whilst offering the beauty and tranquillity associated with the south west of France and its many attractions.
Accommodation
Built to an 'L' shaped plan, the property is ideal for splitting should you wish to purchase with friends or family or indeed use one half as chambres d'hôte or a three bedroom Gite.
The main house has a good sized sitting room adjoining a separate Kitchen. A central staircase leads to a bathroom / WC and two beautifully restored bedrooms one of which uniquely incorporates the chimney stack from the sitting room below that takes the chill from the room in the winter.
The Kitchen leads into a large utility area currently used for study and reading, with stairs up to a spacious landing / gallery, three bedrooms and a bathroom / WC with shower unit.
Adjacent to the study area is a second WC opposite which is a doorway leading to a large barn. This barn, fully carpeted with Jonc de mer - which is extremely warm to the feet in the winter - and part rendered to show of the existing stonework, is fully insulated and has double glazed sling patio doors looking out onto a well kept gravel and grass frontage. Two fan assisted wood burning stoves have been installed -- one in the sitting room and one in the barn. A natural division occurs between the house and the barn and could be sealed off permanently or by just locking the kitchen door. The upstairs bedrooms in both house and barn are separated by the stone wall of the house. The study area has water and drainage so the addition of another kitchen would effectively turn the property into two with the possibilities of a commercial let or sharing a family lifestyle with a greater degree of privacy. Planning permission has been granted to make additional accommodation to the barn if required.
A pergola and Bar-B-Que area to the side of the barn give way to majestic views across the foothills of the Pyrenees and to the distant peaks along a lush valley.
Nestling in a sheltered valley with a stunning outlook over verdant foothills and the 10 thousand feet high snow capped Pic du Midi, this south easterly facing house is ideally suited for a large family or two separate family units.
Grounds & Outbuildings
The property has the latest locally approved fosse septique, ample power points, telephone and broadband is available in the area.
The price of 260,000 euros is nocociable

Places to see in ( San Francisco - USA ) Union Square
Union Square is a 2.6-acre (1.1 ha) public plaza bordered by Geary, Powell, Post and Stockton Streets in downtown San Francisco, California. Union Square also refers to the central shopping, hotel, and theater district that surrounds the plaza for several blocks. The area got its name because it was once used for Thomas Starr King rallies and support for the Union Army during the American Civil War, earning its designation as a California Historical Landmark.
Today, this one-block plaza and surrounding area is one of the largest collections of department stores, upscale boutiques, gift shops, art galleries, and beauty salons in the United States, making Union Square a major tourist destination, a vital, cosmopolitan gathering place in downtown San Francisco, and one of the world's premier shopping districts. Grand hotels and small inns, as well as repertory, off-Broadway, and single-act theaters also contribute to the area's dynamic, 24-hour character.
At the center of Union Square stands the Dewey Monument, an 85-foot (26 m) column on which stand a 9-foot (2.7 m) statue of Nike, the ancient Greek Goddess of Victory. The monument is dedicated to Admiral George Dewey, a hero of the Spanish–American War for his victory at the Battle of Manila Bay in 1898. The monument was dedicated in 1903.
Union Square has also come to describe not just the plaza itself, but the general shopping, dining, and theater districts within the surrounding blocks. The Geary and Curran theaters one block west on Geary anchor the theater district and border the Tenderloin. Union Square is also home to San Francisco's TIX Bay Area, a half-priced ticket booth and Ticketmaster outlet. Run by Theatre Bay Area, tickets for most of San Francisco's performing arts can be purchased the day of the performance at a discounted rate.
At the end of Powell Street two blocks south, where the cable cars turn around beside Hallidie Plaza at Market Street, is a growing retail corridor that is connected to the SOMA district. Nob Hill, with its grand mansions, apartment buildings and hotels, stands to the northwest of Union Square. Directly northeast is Chinatown, with its famous dragon gate at Grant Avenue and Bush Street.
The city's historic French Quarter northeast of Union Square and centers on the Belden Place alleyway, between Bush and Pine Streets, and Claude Lane off Bush Street. This area has many open-air French Restaurants and Cafes. Every year the area is the site of the boisterous Bastille Day celebration, the nation's largest, and Bush Street is temporarily renamed Buisson.
Directly east of the Square off of Stockton Street is Maiden Lane, a short and narrow alley of exclusive boutiques and cafes that leads to the Financial District and boasts the Xanadu Gallery, San Francisco's only building designed by Frank Lloyd Wright—with its interior most notable for being the predecessor for New York City's Guggenheim Museum. The square is part of the Barbary Coast Trail, linking many San Francisco landmarks.
