Places to see in ( Lipari - Italy )
Lipari is the largest of the Aeolian Islands in the Tyrrhenian Sea off the northern coast of Sicily, southern Italy; Lipari is also the name of the island's main town. Lipari is the largest of a chain of islands in a volcanic archipelago situated in between Vesuvius and Etna. The island has a surface area of 37.6 square kilometres (14.5 sq mi) and is 30 kilometres (19 mi) from Sicily. Besides the main town, most of the year-round population resides in one of the four main villages: Pianoconte is almost due west across the island, Quattropani in the northwest, Acquacalda along the northern coast, whereas Canneto is on the eastern shore north of Lipari town.
Lipari is the largest, busiest and most accessible of the Aeolian Islands. Visitors arriving from the mainland will likely experience it as a relaxing introduction to island life; on the other hand, if you've just come from the outer Aeolians, it may feel a bit like the big city.
The main focus is Lipari Town, the archipelago's principal transport hub and the nearest thing that islanders have to a capital city. A busy little port with a pretty, pastel-coloured seafront and plenty of accommodation, it makes the most convenient base for island hopping. Away from the town, Lipari reveals a rugged and typically Mediterranean landscape of low-lying macchia (dense Mediterranean shrubbery), silent, windswept highlands, precipitous cliffs and dreamy blue waters.

Places to see in ( Milazzo - Italy )
Places to see in ( Milazzo - Italy )
Hardly Sicily's prettiest town, Milazzo is hemmed in on its eastern perimeter by industrial development that can make even the most open-minded visitor run for the nearest hydrofoil. Indeed, the prime reason for setting foot in this town is to get to the Aeolian Islands. But, away from the refineries and busy dock, Milazzo has a pretty Borgo Antico (Old Town), and the isthmus that juts out to the north is an area of great natural beauty dotted with rocky coves, well worth a visit for those with time to spare.
Castle of Milazzo. Begun by the Arabs, enlarged by the Normans, restored and strengthened by Frederick II, it is surrounded by walls with round towers built under Alfonso V of Aragon, with a Gothic portal dating from the 14th century. Near the castle are the ruins of the fourteenth-century palace of the grand jury and the old cathedral (1603) probably built on a design by architect Camillo Camillians.
The Old Town includes the fortified citadel and medieval quarters of Milazzo, and contains numerous religious buildings. On entering the old town you first find the Shrine of St. Francesco di Paola, dating from the 18th century and built on the site of a pre-existing church of the 15th century. A little further into Milazzo old town you can see the 16th century Palace of the Viceroy, further enriched in the 18th century with baroque balconies.
Continue along Via S. Domenico to see the Church of Our Lady of the Rosary. Built in the 16th century, the church was rebuilt in the 18th century at which time the interior was decorated with stucco and frescoes by Domenico Giordano (c.1760 - 1820). The road leads on to Milazzo Castle, with its imposing Spanish walls - these are the outermost and largest of the three sets of walls. The building was begun in the first half of the 16th century under Emperor Charles V of Spain (1500-1558), by the viceroy of Sicily, Duke Ettore Pignatelli (died in 1579), and it was completed towards the end of the century.
In Cumbo Borgia Street is the New Cathedral, a building dating back to the 1930s in which there are some valuable paintings by Antonello de Saliba, and other religious paintings attributed to Antonio Giuffrè (14th century), a painter of the Antonello da Messina (1429-1479) school. In lower Milazzo there is a scenic promenade along the seafront. if you continue along the waterfront and through the district of Vaccarella you can follow the panoramic road that leads to Cape Milazzo and towards the Shrine of St. Anthony of Padua.
The ferry port for travelling to the Aeolian islands is found at Milazzo and these islands are a wonderful mix of sea, beach and volcano. Lipari is the busiest of the seven islands. Filicudi and Panarea are also popular outings. Art lovers will want to visit Castroreale and the Pinacoteca art gallery housed in an an ancient church.
Milazzo borders with the municipalities of Barcellona Pozzo di Gotto, Merì and San Filippo del Mela. Milazzo is the point of reference of a vaste territory, from Villafranca Tirrena to Patti (over 200,000 inhabitants). Is also, an important centre of the Strait of Messina Metropolitan Area (who also includes areas of Reggio Calabria), with the nearby town Barcellona Pozzo di Gotto. Located at the base of a peninsula that juts into the Tyrrhenian Sea with a small promontory, the town is 43 kilometres (27 mi) from the city of Messina.
Alot to see in Milazzo such as :
Castle of Milazzo
the Church of Our Lady of Mount Carmel
the Baroque Church of the Holy Crucifix (1629), housing a wooden canopy from the 18th century and a wooden crucifix from the early 17th century.
Rock church of St. Anthony of Padua
Sanctuary of St. Francis of Paola

Nature Clips from Lake Garda: Lakeside, Wild Red Poppies & Italian Birds
I didn't film enough video footage to make a proper tour of Sirmione video, but during our short visit to Sirmione in Lake Garda, I did take a few video clips of some of the nature around the lakeside including some lake water shots and wooden pier shots, a pretty area with wild red poppies (not quite a red poppy field, but more of a smattering of flowers), and a clip of a young boy feeding the local Italian birds near the Grotto of Catullus (I think the birds are Italian sparrows (Passer italiae).
Apologies that it's not really a complete video like some of my other Gardasee / Lago di Garda videos (I was mostly having a day off filming on the Sirmione day) - but I thought maybe still someone may enjoy seeing these clips of the area so I uploaded this just in case.
