Kilkenny Castle ist das bekannteste Gebäude Irlands.
Die Butler Familie kaufte das Schloss im Jahre 1391 und lebte dort bis 1935.
Das Objekt wurde im Jahre 1967 an die Irische Nation übergeben.
Gärten und Parks um das Schloss, sind für die Öffentlichkeit zugänglich.
In der ältesten Gaststätte der Stadt machen wir eine kurze Unterbrechung.
Diese trägt immerfort den Namen der ersten Wirtin, Alice Kyteler, die im vierzehnten Jahrhundert vermeintlich vier Ehemänner ermordete.
In der Bevölkerung war sie als eine Hexe verschrien.
Die Marienkathedrale von Kilkenny wurde im neugotischen Stil unter Verwendung von grauem Kalkstein erbaut.
Den markanten hohen Turm sieht man von der Burg aus.
Trotzdem verheerenden Hungersnot in Irland wurde die Kathedrale erbaut und am 4.Oktober 1857 eingeweiht.

EDEN is the acronym for European Destinations of Excellence, a project promoting sustainable tourism development models across the European Union.
Developed around an annual theme, national competitions take place every year and tourist destinations of excellence for each participating country are selected. The most recent winner in Ireland was Mulranny and the Great Western Greenway in Co Mayo. This fantastic destination joins a host of great other Irish holiday locations that have been singled out for acclaim. Here we take a look at them all.

The Loophead Atlantic coast is noted for its sheer cliffs, most over 30 metres in height, caves and sea stacks that extend south-west toward the point from Kilkee, interrupted only by the lower cliffs and boulder shoreline and bay at Ross and Fodra Bay a little farther south. Diarmuid and Grannine's rock is one of the most dramatic sea stacks in the area, and can be seen on the western side of the point of the headland itself, rising to a height of 100 metres.
