CLAY VILLA PLANTATION HOUSE & GARDENS was established in 1763. It was an
Overseers' house and was originally part of Stone Fort Estate. Clay Villa Plantation House and Gardens can be described as 'St. Kitts Best Kept Secret' - a hidden treasure behind high walls', A Pandora's Box full of delightful surprises and an attraction Beyond the Ordinary. Clay Villa Plantation is a ten acre property (still a working plantation), a unique Kittitian family home whose trustees are descendants of the original (Carib) Indians. This plantation is and was the smallest one on St. Kitts and is of historic importance as well as a Kittitian Legacy because the owners past and present did not believe in slavery and it was only free men, women and family members who worked on the plantation. When the First Premier of St. Kitts, Sir Robert Llewellyn Bradshaw nationalised all the plantations of St. Kitts, Clay Villa was the only one left untouched due to the respect shown to the African people and their descendants over several centuries up to and including present day as well as the Carib Heritage of the owners.
