    The Rhine Falls is the largest waterfall in Switzerland and Europe.The falls are located on the High Rhine on the border between the cantons of Schaffhausen and Zürich , between the municipalities of Neuhausen am Rheinfall and Laufen-Uhwiesen/Dachsen , next to the town of Schaffhausen in northern Switzerland. They are 150 metres wide and 23 metres high. In the winter months, the average water flow is 250 m3/s , while in the summer, the average water flow is 600 m3/s . The highest flow ever measured was 1,250 cubic metres per second in 1965; and the lowest, 95 cubic metres per second in 1921.The falls can not be climbed by fish, except by eels that are able to eel their way up over the rocks.

    The Trümmelbach Falls in Switzerland are a series of ten glacier-fed waterfalls inside the mountain made accessible by a tunnel-funicular, built 1913, stairs, and illumination. Located in the Lauterbrunnen Valley, the creek called Trümmelbach alone drains the glacier defiles of Eiger , Mönch , and Jungfrau and carries more than 20,000 tons of boulder detritus per year.Its drainage area is 24 square kilometres , half of it covered by snow and glaciers.     The Aare Gorge is a section of the river Aare that carves through a limestone ridge near the town of Meiringen, in the Bernese Oberland region of Switzerland. The gorge is an indirect product of glaciation; 10,000 years ago, just as the Ice Age was coming to an end, torrential runoff water from melting glaciers eroded a deep, narrow chasm through the limestone barrier. Although barely one mile long, this passage is bordered by sheer cliffs up to 165 feet high on either side.     Lauterbrunnen is a village and a municipality in the Interlaken-Oberhasli administrative district in the canton of Bern in Switzerland. The municipality comprises the major Lauterbrunnen Valley , the Soustal, the Sefinental, the upper Lauterbrunnen Valley with Untersteinberg including several glaciers, such as the Tschingelfirn and the Rottalgletscher, many Alpine meadows and peaks, such as Schilthorn, Bietenhorn, Schwarzmönch, and Silberhorn, and finally the villages Lauterbrunnen, Wengen, Mürren, Gimmelwald, Stechelberg, and Isenfluh, and several hamlets. The population of the village Lauterbrunnen is less than that of Wengen, but larger than that of the others.

    The Staubbach Fall is a waterfall in Switzerland, located just west above Lauterbrunnen in the Bernese Highlands. The waterfall drops 297 metres from a hanging valley that ends in overhanging cliffs above the Weisse Lütschine.The stream, on reaching the verge of the rocky walls of the valley, forms a cascade so high that it is almost lost in spray before it reaches the level of the valley. After rain, and early in the season when fed by the melting snows, the Staubbach Fall is a very striking object. It overlooks the eternal snows of the Aletsch Glacier from the south side of the Jungfraujoch, at a height of 3,454 metres above sea level. Baar, Switzerland

Baar is a Swiss town of around 23,000 people, situated between Lake Zug and Lake Zurich. Come with me and my short film on this fine spring day and I’ll show you round the town. If you’re coming by car, take the Baar motorway exit, but as this is green Switzerland, you will probably arrive by train at Baar’s modern railway station. Let’s have a look round town, with its large church with the impressive tower. Notice how Baar combines traditional older buildings with modern steel-and-glass architecture. That very rectangular all glass building is the hospital, the largest one in the canton of Zug. And the pink one with the square grey tower behind is Baar’s very own brewery – Baar people are rightly proud of their local beer. This town is reckoned by many to be a good place to live, and 25% of the inhabitants have moved here from abroad. I hope you enjoyed our visit? (By the way, if you come back in the summer, they lend bikes free of charge from near the Rathaus (Town Hall) so you can see more of the town.)

The Swiss town of Arth: between two lakes

Welcome to my comprehensive look at Arth, a Swiss town of 11,000 people on the shores of Lake Zug, in the canton of Schwyz. The town has a beautiful location, being between Lakes Zug and Lauerz, and in almost every view of its streets and buildings there are mountains in the background. As usual in Switzerland, you can get here on public transport by scheduled passenger boat or train from Zurich, Lucerne or Basel, and while there is motor traffic in the town, it is not excessive. There is also a connection here to the “queen of the mountains” cog railway which will take you up the Rigi. Arth is in the heart of Switzerland’s cherry growing area, and kirsch is an important product here.
My film, taken on a sunny day in early spring, shows the beauty of Arth’s lakeside setting, as well as looking at its buildings, ranging from traditional Swiss style architecture to colourful modern designs. It shows a small amount of industry and business, including petrol stations, hotels, restaurants, and a large building site with big cranes working. There are some grand buildings and churches, with apartments on the main streets too. A good place to live!
