5 Most Beautiful Castles in France
In France, every castle is a château, but not every château is a castle. The French word can be used to describe most of the thousands of castles, palaces and stately homes scattered around the country. Many France’s best-loved castles are nestled in the verdant Loire Valley, but there are great examples of medieval fortresses and fairytale castles in every part of the country. From the romantic ruins of Château de Loches to the nearly fully restored Cité de Carcassonne, no visit to France is complete without exploring the best castles in France.
1 Cite de Carcassonne
2 Palais des Papes
3 Chateau de Saumur
4 Chateau de Vincennes
5 Chateau Gaillard

French rivers with Scenic | David Whitehill in Paris

Very French.
Look at these slimy little things.
Welcome to one of the most visited, the most stunning, the most romantic cities in the world; of course I'm here in Paris and this is just the beginning of our journey
Because over the next 10 days we're going to be sailing down the Seine River to have a look at some of France’s finest. Let's get this journey underway.
The capital of France kicks off our Scenic river cruising experience.
The Seine River has been at the heart of the country's history and our first stop is straight from a medieval storybook.
Chateau Gaillard was Richard the Lionheart’s pride and joy and amazingly it was built in less than a year.
In the 13th century though the French came to conquer this region of Normandy taking the castle with it.
My medieval skills are right up there.
One of the areas under the castles protection was Rouen, the capital of Normandy.
The cities filled with history and the cathedral is the centrepiece that took a staggering three centuries to finish; it's so impressive it caught the eye of the famous artist Monet.
Sandrine: “He was renting a little studio here in the top of the building and for the windows from his studio they’ve done 28 paintings of the cathedral and on different time of the day, you know you have different light effects on the cathedral. It's pretty amazing.”
My Scenic guide Sandrine fills me in on the secret of this medieval city.
But not everyone had such an enjoyable experience; this is the spot that so many people come to see here in Rouen because this is where Joan or Arc was tried for witchcraft and burned at the stake.
Now just 25 years later they investigated the sentence
and found that she was innocent, she was made a martyr; probably just a touch too late for Joan.
The stories here are just mind-blowing; but to sweeten your experience Scenic put you to the test, whipping up one of the local delicacies.
Great in a country known for its deserts they bring in the amateurs.
The history here is just sensational but once you fully embrace the French culture.
Thank you Sir.
That's when your experience is going to be unforgettable.
Ah bonjour
Places to see in ( Vannes - France )
Places to see in ( Vannes - France )
Vannes is a walled town in the Brittany region of northwest France. Its old town is characterized by narrow cobbled streets and medieval gates. At its heart, Cathédrale Saint-Pierre de Vannes blends Romanesque and Gothic styles, while Place des Lices square is lined with colorful half-timber houses. The harbor, to the south, features restaurants and boats that cruise the Gulf of Morbihan.
Vannes is located on the Gulf of Morbihan at the mouth of two rivers, the Marle and the Vincin. It is around 100 kilometres (62 miles) northwest of Nantes and 450 km (280 mi) south west of Paris. Vannes is a market town and often linked to the sea.
What a beauty! Overlooking the Golfe du Morbihan, Vannes is one of the unmissable towns of Brittany. Spectacular fortifications encircle Vannes' meandering alleys and cobbled squares, and lead down to a sparkling marina lined with cafes and townhouses. The city still preserves much of its medieval atmosphere, but it's a long way from being a museum piece. It has a lively bar and restaurant scene year-round, and it's also an excellent base for exploring the glittering island-studded Golfe du Morbihan and nearby neolithic sites.
The name Vannes comes from the Veneti, a seafaring Celtic people who lived in the south-western part of Armorica in Gaul before the Roman invasions. The region seems to have been involved in a cross channel trade for thousands of years, probably using hide boats and perhaps Ferriby Boats. Wheat that apparently was grown in the Middle East was part of this trade. At about 150 BC the evidence of trade (such as Gallo-Belgic coins) with the Thames estuary area of Great Britain dramatically increased.
Alot to see in Vannes such as :
Cathedral of St Peter, gothic cathedral
Church of St Patern, classic church
Chapel of Saint-Yves, baroque church
Château Gaillard (medieval house now used as an archaeological museum)
Musée de la Cohue (fine arts museum)
Hôtel de Ville
Old city walls, which include :
Tour du Connétable (a large medieval tower part of the old city walls)
Château de l'Hermine (former castle, transformed into a palace in the 17th century, and a residence of the Dukes of Brittany between the 13th and 16th centuries)
Porte Calmont, medieval city gate
Porte Prison, medieval city gate
Porte Poterne, medieval city gate
Porte Saint-Jean, medieval city gate
Porte Saint-Vincent, 18th century city gate
Many timber-framed houses in the old town
Vannes and his wife, a funny painted granite sculpture from the 15th century in front of Château Gaillard
The harbour
( Vannes - France ) is well know as a tourist destination because of the variety of places you can enjoy while you are visiting Vannes . Through a series of videos we will try to show you recommended places to visit in Vannes - France

It is a touching step back into time, which is sure to elicit emotion within all who attend.

Later in the day Freechoice will see you stop at Giverny, where you’ll gain entry to Monet’s former residence and water lily gardens.
As you relax on the morning of day 9, it won’t be long before the distinctive architecture of the medieval town of Conflans comes into view.
Freechoice today means a trip to Auvers-sur-Oise where you’ll see, among other things, the room of legendary artist Vincent van Gogh, or step inside Chantilly Castle for a guided tour of this remarkable chateau, before walking it’s fairytale parklands.
And after a leisurely afternoon of cruising, where we encourage you to indulge in the Scenic Gem’s on board amenities, the evening will see us embark on our return to the city of love, Paris, where a spectacular skyline awaits.
And so, as we begin the final stop on our voyage through the Gems of the Seine, it is only fitting that we spend one last full day in Paris.
We hope that this is a trip that has ignited your sense of wonder
Until next time, Au Revoir.
