New York's Chelsea and the High Line
We’re going to take a walk in Chelsea, one of the nicest neighborhoods of Manhattan.
Click to Subscribe
It's primarily residential place for local people rather than for tourists, which makes it all that much more attractive for the inquisitive visitor to go explore -- you'll find a mix of quiet side streets and busy retail avenues..
Chelsea's located between 14th St. and 34th St., between the Hudson River and about 6th Avenue, just about 1 mile south of Times Square, which puts it pretty close to Midtown and yet it is a world apart. Its main characteristic are the many streets of residential row houses, a very exclusive enclave.20 years ago there was nothing particularly exciting about the neighborhood. It was always a nice residential zone, but in recent decades things have gotten a lot more interesting with the introduction of hundreds of art galleries and the High Line, an elevated park along what had been a railroad viaduct.
The High Line has become one of the most popular attractions in New York City -- it's amazing. Originally it was planned as a neighborhood park because Chelsea doesn't have much in the way of parks, and now it attracts visitors from all over the world. And New Yorkers love it as well. We will take you on a walk from start to finish later in the program, a mile and a half from the Whitney Museum up to Hudson Yards.
First let's walk along a little bit more in these quiet side streets in the busy commercial avenues. You'll find the bicycle rental stands all over Manhattan and they’re popular here in Chelsea with some lanes devoted to bicycles. Eighth Avenue is one of the main commercial and retail thoroughfares here, it's almost like the village center with a nice variety of shops, mostly independent and some chain stores are found here. Restaurants and delis with a variety of foods in a nice price range that cater to all income levels, because while this is an expensive neighborhood with mostly high-end residences, and tourists always coming through looking for bargains, there are also many long-term residents, some of them living in rent-controlled and rent-subsidized apartments.

Most journeys begin at Penn Station or Grand Central, and if you arrive at the later you'll be wowed by the building. The Meatpacking District was once home to markets, slaughterhouses, and packaging plants, but times have changed. Today you'll find a mixture of trendy restaurants, clubs and boutiques. The Village used to be a bohemian neighborhood that drew artists and musicians, but today you're more likely to find upper middle class families living here. Completed in 1883, Brooklyn Bridge is one of the oldest suspension bridges in the United States. Williamsburg has become popular given its lower rent prices. University students and young professionals have been flocking to this part of town.
You can walk along the riverfront for a great view of the Brooklyn and Manhattan Bridges and the Manhattan skyline. During the summer months, Bryant Park also becomes a popular hangout spot people looking to relax and even work on their tans. The Staten Island Ferry is free of charge and this makes it really popular with visitors who want to catch a glimpse of the Statue of Liberty from a distance. Battery Park is located on the southern tip of Manhattan. Having both lived in South Korea, we were thrilled to come across Manhattan's own Little Korea. Coney Island is all about good old fashioned fun. The Cloisters will make you feel like you've travelled over to Europe. Central Park is massive and there are so many places to visit within its boundaries. We managed to visit Belvedere Castle, the Great Lawn, Shakespeare Garden, The Ramble, The Jackie Onassis Reservoir, the Alice in Wonderland Statue, and we still left feeling like we barely scratched the surface.
And that concludes a look at our very busy week in New York City. I'm still shocked we managed to cover so many attractions, but the great thing about this city is that distances aren't very long and there's always something really cool worth checking out around each corner. Have you been to New York? What are your favorite things about this city? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments section below.

Places to see in ( Birmingham - USA )
Birmingham is the largest city in the state of Alabama. With more than 1.2 million people in the metropolitan area, Birmingham is the cultural and economic heart of Alabama. In much of the world, Birmingham is best remembered as the site of racist violence, bombings, and nonviolent protest in the 1960s, when the city was still racially segregated by law. Visitors today are often surprised to find a pleasant green city of ridges and valleys, with many attractive views and friendly, hospitable people.
From its founding through the end of the 1960s, Birmingham was a primary industrial center of the southern United States. Its growth from 1881 through 1920 earned it nicknames such as The Magic City and The Pittsburgh of the South. Its major industries were iron and steel production. Major components of the railroad industry, rails and railroad cars, were manufactured in Birmingham. Since the 1860s, the two primary hubs of railroading in the Deep South have been Birmingham and Atlanta. The economy diversified in the latter half of the 20th century. Banking, telecommunications, transportation, electrical power transmission, medical care, college education, and insurance have become major economic activities. Birmingham ranks as one of the largest banking centers in the U.S. Also, it is among the most important business centers in the Southeast.
In higher education, Birmingham has been the location of the University of Alabama School of Medicine (formerly the Medical College of Alabama) and the University of Alabama School of Dentistry since 1947. In 1969 it gained the University of Alabama at Birmingham, one of three main campuses of the University of Alabama System. It is home to three private institutions: Samford University, Birmingham-Southern College, and Miles College. The Birmingham area has major colleges of medicine, dentistry, optometry, physical therapy, pharmacy, law, engineering, and nursing. The city has three of the state's five law schools: Cumberland School of Law, Birmingham School of Law, and Miles Law School. Birmingham is also the headquarters of the Southwestern Athletic Conference and the Southeastern Conference, one of the major U.S. collegiate athletic conferences.
Birmingham occupies Jones Valley, flanked by long parallel mountain ridges (tailing ends of the Appalachian Mountains) running from northeast to southwest. The valley is drained by small creeks (Village Creek, Valley Creek) which flow into the Black Warrior River. The valley was bisected by the principal railroad corridor, along which most of the early manufacturing operations began. Suburbs in the Birmingham–Hoover metropolitan area :

Little Rock & Hot Springs. Arkansas
There are approximately 1480 miles from California's West Coast to Little Rock, Arkansas. Little Rock got its name from a stone outcropping landmark on the bank of the Arkansas River -- La Petite Roche. The name Arkansas means south wind.
Little Rock National Airport was recently renamed the Bill and Hillary Clinton National Airport and services over 2 million passengers a year. American, Delta, United and US Airways are the principal carriers flying into Little Rock.
The Clinton Presidential Library and Museum is located within the Clinton Presidential Center and Park. The Library and Museum feature exhibits, special events, and educational programs. Permanent exhibits display documents, photographs and videos. Socks the stray Tomcat that was adopted by Chelsea Clinton has been immortalized in some of the displays. There are replicas of the Oval Office and the Cabinet Room. Permanent exhibits display documents, photographs and videos. The entrance fee is $10 for adults and $5 for children.
About 55 miles southwest of Little Rock is the geothermal town of Hot Springs. Revered by Native American tribes for eons, the French were the first to claim it in 1673. By the early 1800s the Hot Springs were being used for health and healing purposes.
Today Hot Springs continues to be a popular tourist destination with shops, attractions and interesting dining options such as Rolando's who serve a delicious chile cheese tamale. For some real Southern fare, McCard's Bar B Q restaurant is known as the spot for over 75 years. Meats are cooked and smoked in an old fashioned pit style. The half spread is a tamale with fritos, beans, chopped beef, cheese and onions. Fries and ribs are hearty and if you have room left for an ice cream sundae --- well maybe you have just tasted what was Bill Clinton's favorite dishes before he started his vegan diet.
Bill Clinton moved to Hot Springs when he was in second grade. At Hot Springs High School he was an active student politician and a Band Major. Hot Springs was during prohibition a popular spot for gangsters. Al Capone would visit regularly. Entertainers like singer, Kate Smith, God Bless America also were regulars in Hot Springs.
Taking the baths were enhanced by having a few cocktails along with gambling made for a very lively destination. Today alcohol is legal and gambling at Oaklawn is popular and what has continued to endure at the famous maters of Hot Springs. The hot spring flow from the western slope of Hot Springs Mountain and the therapeutic baths have been used for over two centuries to treat rheumatism and other ailments.
Bathhouse Row lines one side of the main street in Hot Springs with ornate buildings that offered hot spring baths and treatments. Though many of the original neoclassical and Italinate buildings are no longer active Spas they are stunning examples of how popular the sap movement was in 19th and early 20th century America.
Oaklawn Park Race Track is the home of the The Racing Festival of the South. Besides thoroughbred racing there is also gaming such as video blackjack, poker and slots. It has been there since 1904.
Mountain Valley Spring Water Company dates even further back to 1871 when a pharmacist began selling the bottled water from a natural spring. The water was touted as a cure for ailments such as Bright's disease, liver and kidney ailments. Through a franchise system it was soon available from the East Coast to Texas. These claims held water during studies after World War II and offered a successful defense against FDA allegations of exaggerated advertising claims.
The spring is protected by 2,000 acres of forest land and is tested daily. It has been a Berkeley Springs International Water Tasting gold medal winner twice and has appeared in numerous movies and television shows.
Maybe there is something in the Hot Springs water that makes brides glow a little more and marriages remain successful a little longer. But as Loren Eisley once said, if there is magic in the world, it must be in water.

BEST street food in New York - NYC street food
Consider this your essential NYC food guide. What is your favourite street food? New York Street food is great and New York food carts are world famous. There are lots of food trucks, New York street food carts and New York food markets. The variety and selection of street food in New York is amazing. One of the best ways to experience New York is through the food carts and street food. In this video we will take you on a tour of the best street food options in New York.
You can find information about all New York Food Truck Events on the following website: We were fortunate enough to catch one of the food truck festivals. These were some of the street foods that we tried at the New York Food truck festival.
-The Mac Truck makes a variety of mac and cheese. Mac and cheese has gained in popularity in recent years. The Mac Truck make a great variety of flavours.
-New York pizza is an essential food to try. Where can you get the best Pizza in New York. Not sure, but the Neapolitan Express food truck located on 232 East 111th Street, New York. There are many other locations in New York. Check out the website for more.
-Lobster is not exactly a typical street food, but we were happy to encounter Cousins Maine Lobster.
The typical New York food cart sells hot dogs, burgers and pretzels. We tried an expensive and very average $4 pretzel. I’d suggest to skip it and save your calories for something more delicious.
The Biryani House Cart in the New York Financial District is a highly acclaimed food cart. I love Indian food and this New York food cart is what makes New York Street food so exciting. The variety and authenticity.
The Chelsea Market is an amazing food market in a repurposed biscuit factory in the Chelsea and Meatpacking district in New York. This is one of the best food markets / best food hall that I have ever visited, with a huge variety of street food and locally produced food.
If you love thick milkshakes and delicious hot dogs, then the Shake Shack is the place for you. We visited the original Shake Shack in Madison Square Park. This is where you will find one of the best hot dogs in New York and one of the best milkshakes in New York

New York City Food Tour : HUGE Pastrami Sandwich at Katz’s Deli and The Halal Guys!
Join me on this delicious New York City food tour!

New York City is an incredible food city because of the diversity of the food available. On this New York City food tour we started off the day by going to one of the most famous restaurants in NYC, Katz's Delicatessen to eat pastrami. Next, we ate at a restaurants in New York City Chinatown called Spicy Village for an amazing pan of “Spicy Big Tray Chicken,” and for dinner I had chicken over rice from The Halal Guys, one of the most popular New York City street foods.
1:21 Katz's Delicatessen - There are few places in New York City for food as famous as Katz's Delicatessen, an absolute legendary deli in the city. Although it’s well overpriced, because it’s such a heritage NYC institution, it’s one of the must eat restaurants in the city. I arrived early in the morning, hoping to beat the crowds, which I did (go for breakfast if you want to avoid lines). After a little contemplation, I decided to go for the reuben with pastrami and a half of corned beef. The corned beef was alright, but the reuben with pastrami was incredible. Total price - $48.56
13:32 Spicy Village - Next up on this New York City food tour my wife and I walked around New York City Chinatown and eventually found our way over to a restaurant called Spicy Village (thanks to Monty for this recommendation). The one dish I mainly wanted to eat at Spicy Village was the Spicy big tray chicken, a pan of fried chicken parts and noodles in a spicy and mouth numbing broth. It was everything I had hoped for and more, and it was one of the best foods I ate in New York City! Total price - $22 - But along with the spicy big tray chicken we had an extra dish as well.
18:32 Times Square - One of the busiest and most recognized squares in the world is Times Square in New York City. So in the afternoon, happy and full of Spicy Village and Katz’s Deli, we walked over to Times Square to enjoy the people watching and the ridiculous amount of lights and action.
20:19 The Halal Guys - While walking through Times Square I remembered that one of the most popular New York City street food stalls wasn’t too far away. So we walked over to The Halal Guys, and I ordered chicken over rice. The chicken over rice itself is prepared pretty plain, but the flavor in The Halal Guys is all in the white and red sauce, both of which are incredibly flavorful and delicious. It was my first time to eat at The Halal Guys, and I’m pretty happy I did. Chicken over rice - $7
It was a great first full day in New York City with some incredibly delicious food. Probably my favorite dish of the day was the spicy big tray chicken from Spicy Village, but all the food was so food.
