Cheyyar-Renovated Sri Parswa Thirthankar Jinalayam.wmv
Sri Parswanathaya nmah:
Cheyyar is a taluk headquarter in Thiruvannamalai District of Tamilnadu state. Its original name is Thiruvathtpuram. It is 15KM from vandavasi a, 30km from Arni,35km from Kanchipuram..It was once a famous jaina Village(now grown to a town) During the period of terrorisist activities of the 7th 78th centuries that started in Madurai against Samanars by those who were against Ahimsa dharma Of Lord Rishaba, many Jaina temples were converted forcibly by enacting black magic. Thiruvathipuram was one such a jaina village . it is said that in the compound wall of saiva temple still there is a sculpture showing the impalement of Ahimsavadins.
there are many famous villages around Thiruvathipuram(Cheyyar) :karanthai, thirupanamur, venbakkam, Thiruparuthikundram, Arpakkam,Magaral, Veliyanallur, Vazhapandal, Melapandal etc. slowly jain people from villages migrated to Cheyyar and settled. For a long time they did not have a temple. some 10 years back they had built a Jinalayam with a beautiful manasthambha dedicated to Sri Parswa Thirthankara. recently the govt.had laid a by -pass road through the area where the jinalayam is present. The tragedy is that they had surveyed and planned the road insuch a way that the road passed through the manasthambha. A very slight deviation could have spared the manasthambha. or the jains of Cheyyar and surrounding villages should have protested . The By- pass road brought down the beautiful manasthambha. if it were different religion -even minority religion ,do you thing this would have happened. we are dumb creatures!!! we were silent spectators
the jinalayam lost its sheen after the destruction of Manasthambha. recently the jinalayam was renovated and on 6-3-2011 A grand function was held. Vimana suddhi. Santhi vidhan , erection of navagraha were some of the programmes conducted
Jai jinendra
