Tripolitania (Libya) Vacation Travel Video Guide
Travel video about destination Tripolitania in Libya.
Tripolitania: at first sight there are few traces of this ancient and legendary place in northwest Libya but it once had three great cities, Sabratha, Leptis Magna And Oea, Tripoli, once named Oea, dates back to the 7th century B.C. when Tripoli was an important trading centre for the Carthaginians. As much as anything else it is the local plants, majestic palm trees and impressive cacti that give Tripoli its Mediterranean atmosphere. Clearly, the influence of the sea is only present close to the coast as a few kilometres inland is endless desert. An eye-catching landmark that dates back to the time of the corsairs is the Citadel in Tripoli’s harbour. The Arabs enlarged the original Byzantine complex to a fortress and for a short spell the city fell into the hands of the Spanish. Sabratha is the youngest of the three great cities of Tripolitania. Thanks to much restoration work the Theatre is one of the most impressive architectural monuments of this once legendary trading city. The restored façade of the Roman stage building is one of the most beautiful to be seen anywhere. Columns of green-white Cipollino Marble with artistic capitols underline the extraordinary architectural charm of Sabratha’s ancient theatre. Around a hundred and twenty kilometres east of Tripoli is Tripolitania’s third ancient metropolis of Leptis Magna, a unique excavation site. The oldest finds in Leptis Magna were made in a Punic cemetery that had been built on by the Romans. Under the rule of Carthage, Leptis Magna became an important trading metropolis until it fell into the hands of the Numidians. The remains of the legendary Tripolitania of antiquity continue to inspire even today and are proof of a great and golden epoch.

Meet the vendor: Chef/owner Lynette Thompson says the seeds for her burgeoning catering business — and now Night Market stall — were planted when she was an undergraduate student at SUNY New Paltz. “I hated the food served in the cafeteria so I would go out and shop for ingredients myself to make my own meals,” Thompson said. It has been her goal to participate in the Night Market since she saw photos online a few years ago, she added, and she is upping the ante at her stall by offering multiple types of mac and cheese

China's Centuries-Old Hakka Houses
Take a look at china's centuries-old Hakka Houses.
China is home to many forms of unique architecture. One example is the Hakka Houses.
The buildings were first built in the 12 century and construction continued on until the 20th century. The circular structures are reminiscent of apartment complexes, being home to many families and serving as a historic community.
These rural dwellings are also referred to as Fujian Tulou. There are approximately 20,000 of these buildings scattered across the Fujian province. The houses were designed to protect its residents from bandits.
The huge structures form together in a micro-community which is equipped with its own food storage, temples, armories and free space for livestock. Many residents have built gun holes inside the apartments to serve as a defense mechanism against intruders.
Nevertheless, the underlying beauty of the structures remains. In 2008, UNESCO deemed the Hakka Houses a World Heritage Site, citing them as a perfect example of 'tradition and function.'
Although each apartment building varies slightly, most of them range from three to five stories high with clay tiled roofs. Each structure has only one entrance, protected by a wall and gate. Beautiful stone, cobbled walkways contribute to the outwardly visual appearance of the houses.
Penang, Home of One of the Best Street Food in Southeast Asia
Penang, long known as the food capital of Malaysia, is renowned for its good and varied food. Penang was recognised as having the Best Street Food in Asia by Time magazine in 2004, citing that nowhere else can such great tasting food be so cheap. Penang's cuisine reflects the Chinese, Malay and Indian ethnic mix of Malaysia, but also shows some influence of Thailand. Most of these cuisine are sold at road-side stalls, known as hawker food, many served al fresco, strongly features noodles, spices, and fresh seafood.
Penang offers plenty of delicious and cheap Malaysian food, but is famed throughout the rest of the country for some specialities such as Char Koay Teow, Penang Laksa, and Nasi Kandar, which are found practically everywhere on the island. If you've been travelling in Singapore or elsewhere in Malaysia, you'll see some familiar names, but don't be fooled: Penang laksa or hokkien mee are quite different from what you'd get in, say, Kuala Lumpur. Penang is an island of countless food stalls, a veritable food paradise. It is known to many around Asia for its culinary originality and diversity. However, Penangites find good food in many places usually unknown (and even odd) to tourists.
The best way to find good food is to ask the locals. Don't be surprised that some stalls that are set up beside a busy road or coffeeshops located in some inconspicuous back alley are considered to serve very good food by the locals, sometimes even under a tree! The rule of thumb is to be adventurous with your tongue and to look at the condition of the stall and its surroundings. Generally, if a stall is being patronised by many locals, the food will be good to eat.

SeaWorld Removes Plastic Straws and Shopping Bags from Parks
At SeaWorld, we’re challenging YOU to save our friends! Did you know that the SeaWorld rescue team brings animals in every day to be treated for implications due to the plastic in our waters? Plastic straws, bottles shopping bags, and anything else made of plastic are serious threats to ocean wildlife. More than 8 million tons of plastic are dumped into the ocean every day. Our aquatic friends can mistake plastic for food, which causes great harm to their health. They can also get tangled up in plastic objects, which can cause them major discomfort or even make them drown. The question we run into is how can we prevent this? Well by avoiding single-use plastic straws, shopping bags, and other unnecessary plastic items we can help save the lives of our animal friends who call the ocean their home. That’s why all 12 of our parks have opted for reusable options. Think you’re up for the challenge? You can do it!
