City Description:
Campos do Jordão is a municipality in Brazil’s Mantiqueira Mountains and part of the state of São Paulo. It encompasses a city of the same name, where Swiss-style architecture is common, and the Parque Estadual de Campos do Jordão to the northeast. Sprawling over a third of the municipality, the park’s pine forests and mountains are home to a variety of birds and endangered animals, including pumas and ocelots.Vila Capivari is the city’s busy commercial center, with many restaurants and bars. A chairlift leads to the top of Morro do Elefante, one of the area’s highest peaks, for views over the city. Palácio Boa Vista is the winter home of the governor of São Paulo. Visitors can explore its art and antique collection when the governor is not in residence. Sculptures dot the lawns of the Museu Felícia Leirner e Auditório Claudio Santoro. In the southwest, Amantikir Jardins has internationally inspired gardens and a labyrinth.
Weather and Events:
Winter (Jun–Sep) is the most popular time to visit Campos do Jordão, particularly during the Festival de Inverno (usually in Jul), an annual music festival. It is also the driest time of year. The climate in Campos do Jordão is warm and temperate, but its high altitude means it’s generally cooler here than in the city of São Paulo. The wettest time of year is Dec–Feb.
