GoPro a HIKE
Hike... fun day hiking in Northern California. Cassel Crags is just off the Interstate 5, north of Redding California and a fun but challenging hike. From the parking lot/staging area to The Dome is about 3.7 miles. There are a few side trails and numerous opportunities to scramble up rocks for the perfect picture. A keen eye will spot one of several rock climbing walls along the way. The trail is a relentless upward grade that gets more difficult as you near the top. That being said, I have taken my children up here when they were young. Good lungs, strong legs and the will to see the top is all you need. At a certain spot that has a tree to you right, close to the top, you can see what looks like a old mans face in the dome. This is a good spot to take a picture. Your photo will do a better job with the reveal. Climbing up the dome is for the more skilled and adventurous. Walking around the base is easy but there are some very dangerous cliffs on the backside. Keep a close eye on the little ones. Resting in the saddle at the top is such a beautiful place to be! I have climbed up here several times and hope to be back again. One final note: My long time friend Taylor Andrews has been battling cancer. He just turned 17. I support Taylor in his battle and I hope you will hold him in your heart, keep him in your prayers and visit Support Team Taylor page on Facebook. Your an amazing young man Taylor...this hike is for you.
