Oldbury is a town in Sandwell, West Midlands in England. It is a part of the Black Country, and the administrative centre of the borough of Sandwell. The place name Oldbury, comes from the Old English 'Ealdenbyrig', - signifying that Oldbury was old even in early English times over 1000 years ago. Eald being Old English for 'old', Byrig is the plural of 'burh' in Old English - a burh being a fortification or fortified town.
Oldbury was part of the ancient parish of Halesowen, a detached part of Shropshire surrounded by Worcestershire and Staffordshire, until the Counties (Detached Parts) Act 1844, when it was incorporated back into Worcestershire after an absence of nine-hundred years. It became an Urban District in 1894, receiving Municipal Borough status in 1935.
In 1966, Oldbury was merged with the County Borough of Smethwick and the Municipal Borough of Rowley Regis to form the County Borough of Warley, which also included most of the Tividale area of Tipton and the eastern section of Oakham in Dudley. The geographical county boundaries were also changed to include the whole of Warley as part of Worcestershire; formerly both Rowley Regis and Smethwick had been in Staffordshire.
In 1974, Oldbury became part of the new Sandwell Metropolitan Borough (a merger between the county boroughs of West Bromwich and Warley), and was transferred into the West Midlands Metropolitan County. Since 1986, after the abolition of the West Midlands County Council, Sandwell effectively became a unitary authority. Sandwell Council's headquarters are situated in Oldbury Town Centre. Oldbury comes within the B68 and B69 postal districts, the latter of which also covers part of Tipton. The postal town is Oldbury, although it previously came under the Warley post town, along with Smethwick, Rowley Regis, and Cradley Heath.
For over thirty years there were three railway stations in the parish named Oldbury; only one is still open, but under a new name. The oldest surviving one is on the Stour Valley Line (former LMS Railway), at Bromford Road. It has been there since the 1850s. It was originally called Oldbury & Bromford Lane Station, then Oldbury Station, but it is now known as Sandwell and Dudley.

Black Country Living Museum 14.08.2016
A day out at the Black Country Living Museum, Dudley in the West Midlands. Filmed on the 14th August 2016.
Covering 26 acres of former industrial land, the Black Country Living Museum tell's the story of the creation of the world’s first industrial landscape.The museum is an open-air museum of historic buildings, consisting of houses, shops, workshops, industrial buildings, a coal mine and vintage transport. Mainly between the years 1850 and 1950.
At the beginning of this video, a look is first taken at the Newcomen Steam Engine - a full scale replica of the first working steam steam engine in history. The atmospheric engine was invented by Thomas Newcomen in 1712, often referred to simply as a Newcomen engine.
A look is then taken at the two period streets, as well as the canal that wraps around the site. Of note; Fellows Morton & Clayton steam narrowboat 'President' and butty 'Kildare' in light steam at the museum during this visit.
Next, a look at the chain maker's shop. This represents one of the many workshops that made small and medium size chain. By the mid-1800s the chain industry was mostly associated with Cradley, Cradley Heath, Old Hill, Quarry Bank and Netherton. A demonstration of chain making can be seen.
Then a look a some of the vintage vehicles operating between the museum entrance and town. These include; Walsall Corporation trolleybus, No. 862 (registration TDH 912), Guy Vixen coach, (registration KTT 689) and West Bromwich Corporation Guy Special bus, No. 252, (registration MXX 340).
Special thanks to the driver of the trolleybus for allowing me access in the cab to film the entire route.

THE CROOKED HOUSE BECAME THE FIRST KNOWN HAS THE SIDEN HOUSE, BECAUSE THE BUILDING SUBSIDED DUE TO LOCAL MINING IN THE AREA. SOMEWHERE NEARBY USED TO BE DUD DUDLEYS FOUNDRY IN THE 1600'S BEFORE BEING RAIDED AND DEMOLISHED BY THE CHARCOAL BURNERS RIOTS, BUT ITS EXACT LOCATION IS UNKOWN, AND THE INFAMOUS PENSNET RAILWAY WALK OR MUD WALK.

There is another pub in the black country that is leaning, Its Called the Tilted Barrel in Princes End, Tipton. But i would recommend drinking there, The Crooked House is more of a tourist attraction and a far safer bet to visit.

So, starting the day at Scarborough where we join the 06:47 Transpennine Express service to Manchester Victoria. The diagrams is currently covered by class 185's but soon the Nova 3 will enter service replacing the 185's.
From Manchester Victoria and a short 20 minutes walk a rather quiet station due to Northern's industrial action which is taking place ever Saturday until the end of September. The West Coast Mainline was closed south of Milton Keyns due to engineering works of the HS2 (High Speed Rail 2)
We join the 10:15 Virgin Trains service to Birmingham International, taken as far as Birminngham New Street. Trains to London Euston only went as far as Milton Keyns and a reduced service. Passengers for London had to connect at either Sheffiled or Birmingham for London.
Once upon arrival at Birmingham New Street, it was a short walk to connect for the West Midlands Railway network to Stourbridge Junction. Joining the 12:11 class 172 in the new West Midlands Railway livery to Soutbridge Junction.
At Stourbridge Junction, it is a nice hours stint where there is plenty of variety of West Midlands Railway class 172's and class 139. The class 139 people parry carrier operates the Stourbridge shuttle to Stourbridge Junction and Stourbridge Town.
The next station along the way is Worcester Foregate Street the gateway to Devon/Cornwall and London. A nice variety seen by West Midlands Railway & Great Western Railway services including a HST service as well.
A short walk to Worcester Shrub Hill where 60009 Union Of South Africa is working The Cotswold Venturer railtour to Lonon Paddingotn. A rare but soon to be a popular sight is the class 166 thames turbo units which now operate in this territory.
The journey back rides on board the 16:46 to Smethley Galton Bridge where we connect for the 17:47 service to Wolverhampton. Changing for the 18:01 Virgin Trains Pendolino service to Manchester Piccadilly for a long journey home.
A short walk to Manchester Victoria with a good 40 minutes to kill before the 20:30 Transpennine Express service to Scarborough. Drama hits as a woman foolishly walks onto the tracks where she was taken away by the British Transport Police.
Our train was delayed by 4 minutes but made up for all lost time at Scarborough ready for the return trip to York.
A fantastic day out and worth every penny.
