The Grande Randonnée (French), Grote Routepaden or Lange-afstand-wandelpaden (Dutch), Grande Rota (Portuguese) or Gran Recorrido (Spanish) is a network of long-distance footpaths in Europe, mostly in France, Belgium, the Netherlands and Spain. In France alone, the trails cover approximately 60,000 km. The trails are blazed with characteristic marks consisting of a white stripe above a red stripe. These appear regularly along the route, especially at places like forks or crossroads.
In France, the network is maintained by the French Federation of Hiking. In Spain by the Spanish Mountain Sports Federation.
Many GR routes make up part of the longer European walking routes which cross several countries.

Sailing Destination Camaret-sur-Mer, Brittany, France
The sweet fishing town Camaret sur Mer is situated in the very Northwest of France, at the Avant-Goulet de Brest in beautiful and wild Brittany.
Coming from sea by sailboat, its two marinas are a great alternative to the marinas in the city of Brest. They provide great shelter and Port Vauban is accessible at any tide. It is a great starting point for crossing the Bay of Biscay.
Camaret’s exposed location at the end of Crozon Peninsula has been of great military relevance for many centuries to defend the Goulet de Brest, the entrance to France largest naval base. So you will find remains of fortifications, batteries and bomb craters from a range of eras.
We are Maik and Michelle, two sailors from different worlds and different cultures with very different perspectives about sailing around the world together on our 43-foot, steel ketch, Seefalke. We also have different levels of sailing experience. Maik (a German) has sailed for more than 20 years, while Michelle (an American) has only been sailing five years. Our crew includes two Beagles, Cap’n Jack and Scout! Come along for the ride to follow our journey!
