WE MADE IT TO PERU! | Road Trip 2016
WELCOME TO THE FIRST DAY OF THE CONTIKI ROAD TRIP 2016! Today, we got to explore Lima! We began our day at Miraflores and saw some incredible mosaics at Parque del Amor. Then we went to a couple of major squares in the city center to see some official buildings and religious sites. We stocked up on some AMAZING sandwiches and headed over to the cat park (yes, you read that correctly) to hang with some cute kittehs ;) We ended the day with a delicious dinner and some traditional dances. It was such a great first day, and I cannot wait for the rest of the trip!
Be sure to check out Contiki's channel to see some amazing compilations of the trip and challenges. And don't forget that YOU have a chance to win a trip to Peru!

UROS ISLANDS OVERNIGHT | Lake Titicaca's Floating Reed Islands
Staying overnight on the Uros Islands, a collection of floating reed islands on Lake Titicaca, was a crazy experience, but also the memory of a lifetime.
We had quite the adventure getting to the islands. First, we couldn't find our AirBnb host at the port in Puno. This led us to hop aboard a different boat to the Uros Islands. Only then did we realize the magnitude of the islands! Once we found someone who knew where we really should have been, we embarked on yet another boat to find our island for the night. However, since our host was out looking for us (and we were out looking for him) we had another problem.
Once we made it safely to our host's floating reed island, he took us on a tour and explained the culture of the Uru people. It was a wonderful experience and we were touched by the symbiosis of traditional and modern cultures.
Back at the island, we enjoyed a big dinner, and were joined by two British travelers who enlightened us of their expeditions through South America.
Later that night, we were awoken by a thunderstorm rolling through! Ordinarily, we aren't bothered by inclement weather. However, since we were staying in a hut made of reeds, on an island made of reeds, and our plans the next day hinged on getting off the island, we were a bit nervous as to how the storm would affect us.
Ultimately, everything ended up being okay, and we had a wonderful time staying on the Uros Islands for the night.

Wari/Huari ruins - Archaeological Places in Ayacucho
The Huari ruins, dating to around A.D. 600, are nestled in a narrow valley in the arid Andean sierra.
The once-immense urban complex is located northwest of the city of #Ayacucho.
The complex of ruins includes ceremonial and residential centers, cemeteries and manufacturing zones.
These zones were organized in a series of wall-in trapezoidal, rectangular and square areas.
