Fans react to Syria's extra time defeat

Omar al-Soma's free kick crashed into the post with moments to go, ending war-torn Syria's World Cup hopes and allowing Tim Cahill's Australians to squeeze into the final playoff for a spot in Russia.
STORYLINE:
The large crowd gathers in Damascus to watch the epic World Cup qualifier against the highly fancied Australians.
Flags are in abundance and the mood is positive. Could the underdogs of Syria pull off the most incredible result in their footballing history?
Having never been to the World Cup finals, The Qasioun Eagles are on the verge of an upset after holding the Socceroos to a 1-1 draw in Malaysia, which is currently the national team's base.
The fans here in the Syrian capital are upbeat and up for the challenge.
Even if Syria are playing at the home of Australia, we will win, we will score more goals than they do and we will win, say one fan.
Another says Syria will be considered winners regardless of the result because reaching this phase is a triumph for us.
Syria's chances grow dramatically after it takes the lead in this second leg after al-Soma's goal in the 6th minute, but Australian talisman Tim Cahill's powerful header in the 13th minute puts the match back in the balance - all square at 2-2 on aggregate.
Australia are seemingly unable to convert a high percentage of possession into a goal, with Syria's well drilled defence thwarting attack after attack, and goalkeeper Ibrahim Alma on cracking form.
Syria take Australia to extra time but a sending off gives the Aussies even more room to manoeuvre and, in the second period, Cahill pops up again to secure Australia's place in a playoff next month against the fourth-place team from North and Central America.
Our team did its best, but we are not lucky. Even in football it has bad luck, lamented one fan after the game.
But the majority of the Damascus crowd, though disappointed, are happy to celebrate the achievement. To come as close as this to qualifying was against the odds and no mean feat.
Meanwhile, Syrians in Lebanon go through the same anguish.
In a Beirut cafe, Syrians and Lebanese alike watch the game unfold.
Expectations are raised after al-Soma's goal, but these fans soon have their heads in their hands.
Hard luck for the Syrian national team hard luck to all Syrians who were in need for happiness after seven years of war, comments Seifeddine Wannous, from Latakia, who moved to Lebanon in 2015 to work for an Iraqi TV station.
He and his fellow nationals watch while holding their breath as Syrian players miss the chance to go through after Australia's equaliser.

As the Syrian team succumb to Cahill's goal in the last minutes of a dramatic extra time, fans' in Beirut are left in disappointment for a once in a lifetime chance missed by their national teamd.
There is always hope and we will for sure be ready for World Cup 2022 in Qatar, Wannous says.
Syria coach Ayman al-Hakim was full of praise for his team, which finished with 10 men after Mahmoud Almawas was sent off in the fourth minute of extra time after picking up a second yellow card.
The Syrian team has been on a remarkable run despite being forced to play all its games in other countries. But in a reflection of the massive divisions among Syrians amid an ongoing 7-year-old war, the country's World Cup run was opposed by many Syrians who are against President Bashar Assad, accusing him of exploiting the team.

清海無上師本身是一位善行義舉的典範，同時她也鼓勵大家美化我們所居住的世界。
經由修行觀音法門，清海無上師發展出多樣渾然天成的才華，透過繪畫、音樂、詩作、珠寶和服裝設計等藝術創作，將來自天國的靈思融入生活之中。
1995年，在大眾的懇求下，首度在國際各流行重鎮，展開服裝設計巡迴展，其中包括倫敦、巴黎、米蘭和紐約等地。清海師父用這些藝術創作的收入從事慈善工作，以獨立的資金來源展現她的務實觀－－我們都應該靠自己的力量幫助他人。
