Check out Derry now in this short video, see what Derry daily life is like. Derry is the 2nd city of Northern Ireland, it is situated in the UK, but on the Island of Ireland. It is often called the Maiden City or the Walled City in Northern Ireland.

Sometimes it is referred to as Derry and in other cases it is called Londonderry and this has been the subject of a name dispute between Irish nationalists and unionists; nationalists are the ones to call it Derry while unionists are those who refer to it as Londonderry. When it comes to the legal side, it is known as Londonderry.

It is not about the name of the city but it is about the things to do there and the places to visit in it. Our journey in this beautiful city started with Londonderry Courthouse which is one of the old buildings that are found in the city and which you will at some point pass by.

Austins was the second place to pass by in Derry/Londonderry. Austins is the world's oldest independent department store that was established back in 1830 by Thomas Austin and it has been working since that time until today. It is not just for the sake of shopping, but this old building is another reason why one will come to it and know more about the history of its foundation.

Among the other touristic attractions of this city in Northern Ireland, we came to the Bishop's Gate which was built at the suggestion of Bishop Hervey in 1789 to celebrate the centenary of the siege. Bishop's Gate will take you to Bishop's street and there you could have a stroll down doing nothing specific (

Among the list of places which we visited in Londonderry, we have been to The Craft Village. The Craft Village is the reconstruction of an 18th century street and 19th century square that provide an eclectic mix of artisan craft shops, balconied apartments and different restaurants and coffee shops which one could sit it and enjoy their time. We have walked across this village and loved every detail related to it and we would suggest it for those who will be visiting Derry anytime soon and there you will also find souvenir gifts to take back home to your friends and family.

Moving forward with our trip, we visited the Guildhall and Square which is another touristic attraction for people to visit while being in Derry. The Guildhall in Derry is an old building that is standing there from 1890 and it is the building in which the elected members of Derry and Strabane District Council meet. The old 17th century Guildhall was first located in the Diamond area of the Walled City but this building was then destroyed by fire and the new building was assigned to be built in a city square. In addition to the social and political meetings which are held in the Guildhall, this is also the place where the Feis Doire Colmcille - an event which celebrates Irish culture - is held. Guildhall Square which is just in front of the building is the main city square in Derry - Londonderry and is also the place where different important and beneficial events are usually held (

One of the other things that people tend to check while they are in Derry/Londonderry is the Peace Bridge. Peace Bridge was opened back in 2011 by Johannes Hahn and it is both a cycle and foot bridge that crosses over River Foyle. The aim of the bridge was to connect Ebrington Square to the rest of the city centre, and that what happened eventually with this bridge that is one of the newest three to be found in Derry (

The last stop in this video around the city of Derry in Northern Ireland is Shipquay Gate which is one of the original four city gates dating back from 1805. It is interesting to come across those different old gates which stand from the history until today but which will bring you to the modern world that you are living in - they give the city a different kind of atmosphere.

Back in 1613, the city was granted a Royal Charter by King James I and gained the London prefix to reflect the funding of its construction by the London guilds and from that time the legal name has been Londonderry although some people refer to it as Derry.

Derry tourism is growing in recent years - and there is plenty now to do in Derry on a night out. The city itself is a great walk with many historic points especially the walls that surround the city. Doire as it is called in Gaelic - is well worth a visit by any tourist

The boardwalk is 1.6 km in length and is located at the end of a 5.8km limestone gravel track. The Cuilcagh Legnabrocky Trail is a linear route which will appeal to walkers with some experience walking in the hills. According to NIExplorer: “Cuilcagh, from the Irish meaning ‘chalky peak’, is Fermanagh’s highest mountain and sits right on the border of County Fermanagh in the north and County Cavan in the south of Ireland. 5. With the Irish Sea tracing around the course perimeter and the Mourne Mountains as a striking backdrop, Golf Digest has listed Royal County Down Golf Club as number one in its ranking of the World’s 100 Greatest Golf Courses outside the US.

We’re on the Causeway Coastal trail here in Northern Ireland!

Driving the Causeway Coastal Route in Northern Ireland is one of the greatest drives in the world

By far I would say for me the biggest highlight was the Giant’s Causeway

I’ll never forget walking out there for the first time and

my jaw dropping because there’s all these basalt columns
you know they look like they’ve been placed there by an architect

Yeah legend has it that the giant Finn McCool made a giant causeway
hence the name
over to Scotland to fight with another giant

The Carrick-A-Rede Bridge
Now this is an old bridge that the fishermen used to use back in the day
You know what it’s been modernized now for tourists

When you take this bridge over
like the bridge is a highlight yes
but when you get out there and you’re standing
on these massive massive cliffs
you know overlooking the ocean
you really feel small
I really respected mother nature
when I was standing there

Yeah this is a wild coastal route
I’m telling you the waves are pounding
the cliffs are giant
these are some of the highest sea cliffs in the world
and when you’re standing out there
you’re just in awe

If you do get a chance
I highly recommend Ballintoy Harbour
this was one of my favourite stops
you really get up close to those wave crashing
against those cliffs and it really does take your breath away
when you’re standing there
the beauty about this place too is that
tour busses can’t get down there

and for those Game of Thrones TV buffs out there
this was used as Theon Greyjoy’s home
when he sailed his ship into the harbour
well it was Ballintoy harbour

And we can’t leave out the Dark Hedges
this is another Game of Thrones reference
it’s this grove of beach trees that tower
and make sort of a tree cave
over this really long road

It’s absolutely beautiful
it’s also Northern Ireland’s most photographed
tourist site

Having a car and doing our self-drive
around the coastal route was really key
because we could get there early in the morning
when no one else was there
and we had the Dark Hedges all to ourselves


And if you like castles
Dunluce Castle is another great stop
in Northern Ireland along the Coastal Route
again they don’t dress up their castles
you know it’s just overhanging on these cliffs
and you can just imagine what life would’ve been like
there when people were living there

One place that you gotta make sure you go out to
is the Mussenden Temple
now that’s one of the last stops
or it is the last stop on the Causeway Coastal Route
and then you go back into London Derry into
the cities and everything
but this is a nice stop and Dave loved photographing it

Yeah when I read about the Mussenden Temple
I was really curious because
you walk through a small settlement
and remnants of a settlement that’s there
and you get to the edge of this cliff and there’s
this very small stone temple
that just doesn’t look like it belongs
but it’s an incredible scene to photograph

One last thing that we have to recommend
is a little side trip that you can do
and that’s going out to Torr Head Drive

Not a lot of people make this drive out
but I highly recommend it because
as you get out t this point
you stand there and
it is the closest point to Scotland
Yes it is
It feels like you could almost reach out
and touch Scotland from there

The Giant’s Causeway Coastal Route
is just one of the best things anyone can do
it’s by far one of our favourite drives
we’ve ever done
I highly recommend it

Newtownards, is a large town, townland and civil parish in County Down, Northern Ireland. Newtownards lies at the most northern tip of Strangford Lough, 10 miles east of Belfast, on the Ards Peninsula. Newtownards is situated in the civil parish of Newtownards and the historic baronies of Ards Lower and Castlereagh Lower. Newtownards is the largest town in the former Borough of Ards. It is known colloquially by locals as Ards.

The town of Newtownards is overlooked by the 100-foot (30 m) high Scrabo Tower. The tower is 41 metres high, and was erected as a memorial to Charles Stewart, 3rd Marquess of Londonderry, in recognition of his concern for the plight of his tenants during the great potato famine. It is open to the public and houses a historical and local environment exhibition. The basalt topped sandstone hill at Scrabo is one of the dominant features of north Down. The tower now stands tall in Scrabo Country Park with its woodland walks and parkland through Killynether Wood.

The Somme Heritage Centre, which is situated a little north of the town, is the Somme Association's flagship project. Situated adjacent to the Clandeboye Estate outside Newtownards, the centre is a unique visitor attraction of international significance showing the reality of the Great War and its effects on the community at home. The centre commemorates the involvement of the 36th (Ulster) and 16th (Irish) divisions in the Battle of the Somme, the 10th (Irish) Division in Gallipoli, Salonika and Palestine and provides displays and information on the entire Irish contribution to the First World War.

The centre promotes cross-community contact, mutual understanding, an appreciation of cultural diversity, and is a major visitor attraction. The centre is built on ground provided by Ards Borough Council in what is to be the Whitespots Country Park. It is linked to Helen's Tower on the Clandeboye Estate via the Ulster Way. Historically, the 36th (Ulster) Division trained on the estate during the first few months of the war and German prisoners of war were interned there. A replica of Helen's Tower was built on the Somme battlefield as Northern Ireland's national war memorial.

On the east shore of Strangford Lough, a few miles outside Newtownards and near Greyabbey, stands Mount Stewart, an 18th-century house and garden – the home of the Londonderry family. The house and its contents reflect the history of the Londonderrys who played a leading role in British social and political life. The ninety-eight acre garden at Mount Stewart has been proposed as a UNESCO world heritage site. Largely created by Edith, Lady Londonderry, wife of the 7th Marquess, in the 1920s, it has an unrivalled collection of rare and unusual plants.

Armagh City; A Glimpse of the City in Northern Ireland / County Armagh - Cities of Ireland

Armagh City is a new city in Northern Ireland - but a historic capital of Ireland. Spend a few minutes as we take you through Armagh - one of our favourite cities in Northern Ireland - not far from the border with the South of Ireland and around one hour drive from Belfast - it offers great places to visit, lovely restaurants and bars and shopping. It has amazing walks around the streets and through historical roads that are clearly marked - each with its own story. The city is very closely linked to Saint Patrick.

Armagh city is the county town of county Armagh and it is also one famous city in Northern Ireland as well as a civil parish. Armagh is not much of a small town, it is actually a medium-sized one, but it only gained the city status in 1994 and was given the Lord Mayoralty status in 2012.

Since Armagh city is home of two churches, it is referred to as the religious capital of Ireland (the city of saints and scholars) and thus manage to attract different tourists to it every now and then. There are actually different reasons (different touristic locations) which made this city a historical capital of Ireland and one of them was Navan Fort which is located just outside the city (

There are always good stories behind those old cities which are found out there and since we are talking about Armagh city, we should mention that this was not the first name given to the city but it was originally called Ard Mhacha which was after the ancient Irish God Macha (war horses and sovereignty). Later on, it was called Ardmagh before it finally came to the last stop which is being referred to as Armagh.

There are different places for one to visit when it comes to Armagh and one of them is St. Patrick Church which was founded by Saint Patrick in the year 457 and which eventually became the ecclesiastical capital of Ireland ( In addition to St. Patrick Church which is considered the most important thing to be visited in this city, there is also Armagh County Museum which is considered one of the important touristic attractions that people tend to visit when it comes to this city (

As much as Saint Patrick took care of this city back in time, it is now considered an educational center back from that time and that is also the reason why it is referred to as the city of saints and scholars. After that time, there were other educational related projects which took their place in the city and which started with the opening of the Royal School in 1608, St. Patrick's College in 1834, and the Armagh Observatory in 1790 ( this observatory was part of a Archibishop Robinson's plan and dream to open a university in the city, which was fulfilled later on in the 1990's when Queen's University of Belfast opened an outreach centre in the former hospital building.

In addition to being an educational place as well as a religious spot, there are beautiful scenes which one could come across in this city especially when it comes to comparing the old with the new; looking at the old pictures of the city and then spotting out the differences or the changes that has been installed since then.
There are a couple of important notable buildings in Armagh city which you will definitely come across and might even find yourself staring right at them trying to know what they are. Armagh Prison is one of those old buildings which comes along with the Market House, the Public Library, the Courthouse, the Mall which is looking toward the First Presbyterian Church and Gospel Hall, and all these come of course in addition to those important places which we have mentioned above.
There are always beautiful things that would differentiate one place from the other and even if St. Patrick Church is considered the most important thing to be mentioned when it comes to Armagh City, you will still find lots of other places which you will find interest in and which might not just be related to those historical places and buildings, but it might also be related to restaurants, street walks, cafes or even bars, it will always depend on the interests of every single person visiting the city.

Armagh city in Northern Ireland is not just a touristic place but it has always been known as a religious centre since the 5th century, and remains the ecclesiastical capital of Ireland, the seat of both the Anglican and Roman Catholic archibishops of Armagh, and Primates of all Ireland.
