With 1.5 million lucky people calling Auckland home, this North Island gem is the most populous city in New Zealand. Auckland tourism is quite diverse, giving visitors a bounty of choices for how to spend their time. The city marries modern buildings and art with nature, and the surrounding region has plenty of its own attractions to offer.
Auckland is called the City of Sails, boasting more boats per capita than anywhere else in the world. Nestled between two natural harbors, it’s no wonder residents and visitors alike enjoy spending time on the water. After a breakfast in Elliott Stables, take off on a boat cruise from downtown to explore the sights of Hauraki Gulf.
With your feet back on solid ground, enjoy Auckland sightseeing and shopping along Queen Street. Jet over to Ponsonby, which is considered one of the more hip neighborhoods in Auckland. When lunchtime rolls around, find your way to Devonport, a lovely harborside suburb where you can enjoy a seafood lunch.
With a contented stomach, spend some time at Auckland Domain, the city’s oldest park. Watch a game of cricket, walk through the Formal Gardens, or take a leisurely stroll through the mature trees. If you’re interested in even more of New Zealand’s natural landscape, head just outside the city for rolling hills, jagged cliffs, and forests with towering treetops. Walk through the Hauna Ranges and you’ll be rewarded with the Hunua Falls, an impressive waterfall rushing over a volcanic edge.
Visitors interested in adventurous Auckland tours must head to the downtown Sky Tower before leaving New Zealand. This is the tallest man-made building in the entire country – and it offers a breathtaking base jump from the top. If you’re not in the mood for that much adrenaline, head to the observation platform to take in sweeping views of the city and harbor.

Auckland, New Zealand Travel Guide - Must-See Attractions
The Auckland metropolitan area, in the North Island of New Zealand, is the largest and most populous urban area in the country. Auckland straddles the Auckland volcanic field, which has produced about 50 volcanoes.
The most important places to visit in Auckland are: Sky Tower (offers amazing city views. Auckland wouldn't be the same without Sky Tower), Waiheke Island (a seaside paradise close to Auckland. Explore its picturesque vineyards and green pastures), Mount Eden (a big dormant volcanic crater with excellent views of Auckland), Cornwall Park (a peaceful escape from the city, you'll walk amongst mature trees and possibly even spot sheep), Karekare Beach (an unusual beach with its black sand and tall cliffs, this stunning location was used in the movie The Piano) and many more.
This video offers a lot of tips to help you plan the perfect vacation. If you want to save time and money, the most important Auckland travel tip is to compare prices before booking a hotel room or a flight. You can do this for free on a site that searches through hundreds of other travel websites in real time for the best travel deals available
Top 10 Things to do in Queenstown, New Zealand - w/GoPro/pix/where to stay - and cheapest ways.
Queenstown, New Zealand is for sure in the top 1% of all towns to visit in the world! This video has so much in it for being short, you should watch it all completely to save yourself time and money when traveling there (and pause/re-watch). Our research and experience shows how to stay in the Crown Plaza for free, do the Gondola ride up the hill and the Stratosfare Restaurant for free. #1 thing to do is Milford Sound by air and boat. #2 Is the Shot over Jet #3 Is the Gondola ride to the top of hill. #4 Is the Stratosfare Restaurant #5 is the Zip Line on the hill #6 is doing a Lord of the Rings Tour/Glenorchy #7 is Bungie Jumping #8 is riding the Luge at the top of the hill #9 is eating famous burgers and touring the town #10 is not going to Christchurch at all. Also, the steam ship that was built in 1912 (same year as the Titanic sailed) would be fun to do, but we didn't do it because of time. We spent one day on a scenic wine tour, which turned out to be a large waste of time, unless you really like that sort of thing. Skip the wine tour. Rent a car early, if you want one. This could save you doing tours, as you could just drive to scenic places.
From Auckland Central to Devonport: What you can do there
We decided to get out of the house and do something different so we spent a half-day crossing the pond by ferry from Auckland's CBD to nearby Devonport.
It's a short trip of just 12 minutes each way. The ferry was $4.80 per trip with an AT Hop card.
We also only covered a fraction of what you can do there but apart from the ferry, food and drink everything else was... free!
