Dongyang is a county-level city of about 804,398 people in the center of Zhejiang Province, about 200 kilometers south of Hangzhou. It covers an area of 1,744.05 km2 and administers eleven towns, one county, and six subdistricts. It is part of the Yangtze River Delta Economic Region. Its built-up area, made of Dongying and the neighboring city of Yiwu, was home to 2,038,413 inhabitants at the 2010 census.

The movie studio is operated by the privately owned Hengdian Group founded by Xu Wenrong. Sometimes called Chinawood, Xu turned acres of farmland in central Zhejiang into one of the largest movie studios in Asia. Construction began in the mid-1990s and has been ongoing ever since with the possible recent addition of the replica of the Old Summer Palace. A film about extras working at the studio, I Am Somebody, was released in China in 2015.

Palace is a 2011 Chinese television series produced by Yu Zheng; starring Yang Mi, Feng Shaofeng, Mickey He and Tong Liya. The series was directed by Lee Wai-chu and starred cast members from mainland China, Taiwan and Hong Kong. The series was first broadcast on Hunan TV in China from 31 January to 21 February 2011. It is later followed by Palace 2 . The series was extremely popular during its run and led to widespread fame for its cast.

I took a tour around the Yiwu Industrial Trade City - the largest wholesale market in the world. People come here from every country to buy goods to export. 5.5 million square meters, 7km long, this market is beyond giant. And it's all one interconnected building. I explored it for a day with Collin Abroadcast, a fellow market fanatic. From Christmas decorations to children's toys to hardware and tools, we found a bunch of stuff that blew our minds.
