Bulgaria's Beautiful Historical Locations - Timelapse Video - 4K
One of the loveliest Bulgarian historical cities must be Veliko Tarnovo (Велико Търново) with its Tsarevets (Царевец), a medieval stronghold located on a hill. It often features Sound and Light Show, emblematic attraction in Veliko Tarnovo. Audio visual spectacle using music and light to evoke the dramatic and turbulent historic events around Tsarevets and the city of Tarnovo Dramatic music, multicolor lights, lasers and chiming bells are synchronized in a special way. And it is not only Tsarevets that attracts visitors, Veliko Tarnovo has unique position over not one but two spectacular river bends. Not less enjoyable is city of Plovdiv with its historical old town which features Roman theatre and it is one of the world's best-preserved ancient theatres, It was constructed in the 90s of the 1st century AD, probably under the rulership of Emperor Domitian. Nearby Asen's Fortress, a medieval fortress in the Bulgarian Rhodope Mountains is a great location for a daytime visit. Add little gems like Tryavna town or Dryanovo Monastery with its great locations along the river. Vratsa town might not the the most picturesque place, however its position at Vrachanski Karst Nature Reserve makes it a worthwhile visit.

Covered Bridge in Lovech | A Romantic Hideway in Bulgaria
Covered Bridge in Lovech | A Romantic Hideway in Bulgaria
The Covered Bridge in the town of Lovech, Bulgaria. The name comes from an old Bulgarian word meaning River City. The bridge crosses the Osam River, connecting the old Varosha and new town parts of Lovech, being possibly the most recognisable symbol of the town. After the bridge that then served the town was almost completely destroyed by a flood in 1872, the local police chief ordered the famous Bulgarian master builder Kolyu Ficheto to construct a new one. Ficheto personally chose the material for the wooden bridge. Each citizen of Lovech contributed to the building process, the poorer ones working themselves and the wealthier donating money and paying other workers. Building completed in 1874.
The initial bridge had a length of 84 m and 6 vents and accommodated 64 shops. It was, however, wholly destroyed by fire on the night of 2 to 3 August 1925. A more modern bridge was constructed at its place in 1931 only to be replaced by a reconstruction of Kolyu Ficheto's design in 1981-1982. The current bridge is 106 m long and has 14 shops, the architect being Zlatev. The covered bridge is a popular place among tourists, and souvenirs from Lovech can be bought from its shops. The bridge above the Osam river is also the only covered bridge on the Balkan Peninsula. In terms of natural landmarks Lovech has to offer much as well.

Zhenski Pazar - Women's Market (Sofia - Bulgaria)
Sofia’s largest and busiest market, Zhenski Pazar (Women’s market) has a wide range of seasonal fruit and vegetables, cheese, cured meats, dried fruit and nuts, homemade halva and other Turkish-inspired goodies. There are two “roads” the right-hand one is for fruits, vegetables and food and the left one is for clothes (usually cheap fake designer clothes), shoes, and other cheap Chinese stuff.

Bulgaria HiLites: Rila Monastery
The Rila Monastery was founded in the first third of the l0th century by the Bulgarian monk St. Ivan of Rila - a hermit canonized by the Orthodox Church, and his disciples. The tower 'Hrelyuva Kula' is the oldest building in the monastery. The ornate church of the 'Holy Virgin' was raised in the courtyard in 1837. It keeps the relics of Saint Ivan Rilski. The Holy Cloister -- a unity of material and spiritual culture, treasures various works of Bulgarian art, which are of high artistic value. There is a great collection of icons and paintings dating back to the 14th-19th century. The Rafail's cross with dimensions 81/43 cm is of great interest. It was made over a period of twelve years in the 17th century and shows 104 scenes and 650 small figures. Rila Monastery is the second largest monastery on the Balkan Peninsula and one of the most skillful Bulgarian masters of the time took part in its establishment and building.
The Rila Monastery is the largest and the most beautiful in Bulgaria. The second largest is the Bachkovo Monastery treasuring the miraculous and wonderful icon of the Holy Virgin dating back to 1310. The Troyan Monastery is known above all for the creative work of Zahari Zograph who painted both the exterior and the interior (a rare practice for the time), and is famous for the miracle working icon of the Holy Virgin Troeruchitsa and also for its wall paintings. Very rich in woodcarvings, icons and wall paintings are Preobrazhenski Monastery, Sokolovski Monastery, Rozhen Monastery and Kapinovo Monastery. As monastery sightseeing and tours gain popularity, the sacred monasteries and churches welcome tourists in well-furnished guest rooms where one can relax for a few days.
