Sywell Country Park

A group of mines on Ecton Hill, Staffordshire, are unusual for the Peak District in producing predominantly copper rather than lead and zinc. The most important, Deep Ecton mine, has been mined since the Bronze Age, and in the 18th century was a major producer of copper, and the deepest mine in Britain. Mining below river level ceased in the 1850s, and all production stopped in the 1890s. The mine is now a significant educational resource, managed by the Ecton Mine Educational Trust, and with teaching provided by the Ecton Hill Field Studies Association.

Kent Country Walk - Otham to Leeds Castle round.

Our walk is a guided walk in the Garden of England, Kent. We start in Otham a village near Maidstone and walk through the fruit crops and orchards to Broomfield and Leeds Castle we return to Otham via Leeds village and through more of England's orchards. This is a beautiful walk below the North Downs and Leeds Castle is spectacular. Start point: Otham War Memorial. This is an easy mainly flat walk through orchards, fields and along tracks and minor roads. Approx 7 miles allow 2 hours 45 minutes using OS Explorer map 148, Maidstone & the Medway Towns.
We have done this video and our last video Kent -- Detling-North Downs Way-Pilgrim's Way-Thurnham on request for David Seager from New York, USA who's Great, Great Grandfather, Edward, lived in Thurnham and was buried in Otham churchyard.

This film was recorded in september 2012 and shows some of the recent enhancements and further developments that have taken place at the Willy Watt Marina and Woodford Mill.It features an appearance from the previous owner/keeper James William Hawes as well as some information on the tea room another recent development.Blackthorn lake has also been modernised to a trendy marina with further moorings in addition to the berths already in place at the willy watt marina.There are full facilities for boaters as well as camping facilities at the blackthorn lake marina.All in all this is a place worth visiting,be it by road or by water.

Wetton Mill, Peak District.

If you're in the Peak District and want somewhere to stop for tea and cake try Wetton Mill along the Manifold Valley

Elderbush Cave, Manifold Valley, Staffordshire

Once home to the oldest known remains in Staffs, this cave is a delight. Be careful! A side passage goes right down to the left into a chamber which is quite tall, with other passages leading off.

John is playing with the sonorous aspects of the lower chamber, it's quite dark for a while, and then finally a journey into the light from the deepest recess of the cave, to find it's now 2010, and Graham Norton has been elected president by a telephone poll!
