Tasmania Road Trip - Living in a Van
More than 2.400km around Tasmania in 13 days on my Ford Econovan, me and my mates Andrea and Nick. Starting from Devonport, visiting the Leven Canyon, hiking on the top of the Cradle Mountain National Park, driving along the remotest lands on the east side until the Nelson Falls and the Frenchman’s Lookout, walking along the Lake St. Claire, camping on a hill in Ellendale enjoying a stunning Milky Way, challenging the strong wind of the Mount Field National Park, till the cold walls of Strathgordon, coming back to the civilization in Hobart for the first shower before to have a dip in the frozen restoring water of South East Cape, tasting the oysters in Bruny Island, exploring the massive cliffs and watching the wales of Tasman Peninsula and Cape Hauy, visiting friends in Richmond and enjoying a glass of wine on the top of Mount Amos in front of Wineglass Bay, camping on the Bay of Fires shores and below the St. Columba Falls, talking by the fire surrounded by millions of beetles in the wilderness of Water House National Park, along the hills of the Great Lake, before the last unforgettable night in Hobart, ended with a last cheers in Launceston.
La Bella Vita as we use to say in Italy, without comfort, living on a van, without shower and facilities, where home is the place where you decide to camp… this is the backpacker life.

Rugby is a city in Pierce County, North Dakota, in the United States. It is the county seat of Pierce County. The population was 2,876 at the 2010 census.[6] Rugby was founded in 1886.
Rugby is often billed as being the geographic center of North America.
Rugby was founded in 1886 at a junction on the Great Northern Railway, where a branch line to Bottineau met the main line. The railroad promoters initially platted the town as Rugby Junction, getting the name Rugby from the town of Rugby in Warwickshire, England.[7] It was one of several sites along the Great Northern's transcontinental route between Devils Lake and Minot that were named after places in England (the others were Berwick, Leeds, Knox, Norwich, Penn, Surrey, Churches Ferry, Tunbridge, and York). When the community became a city, the Junction was dropped from the name.
North Dakota's first permanent European settlers arrived in 1812 from the Earl of Selkirk's colony in neighboring Manitoba, Canada. As farmers, they were more advanced than many of their contemporaries in the rest of the United States, having adopted sophisticated farming methods and machinery.[citation needed] Many of these implements, including an early McCormick Deering threshing machine, have found their way to the restored Pioneer Village in Rugby.
In 1931, the town of Rugby erected a 15 feet (4.6 m) tall rock obelisk marking the Geographical Center of North America. This was moved to a slightly different location in or after 1971.[citation needed] According to a listing by the U.S. Geological Survey, Rugby is actually approximately 15 miles (24 km) from the geographic center of North America [6 miles (9.7 km)] west of Balta), and even this designation carries no official status
Martup Pool Rest Area - Free Camp - Albany Hwy, Western Australia
Martup Pool is a Freecamp/Rest Area on the Albany Hwy near Beaufort River. I had stopped there a few times, but had never followed the tracks down to the pool. It was well worth the effort. 4wdozdvd.com
Following is a history of the Martup Hills property
The first pastoralist to the Beaufort River was Edward Hamersley. On 31 March 1852 he
was granted a lease of 10,000 acres centred on the Martup Hills. Within this lease 15
acres was surveyed to freehold Dungalar Spring (Locn V) and locations 1-4 of 10 acres
apiece near the site of the Beaufort Bridge. These were the first land selections in the
Williams district freeholded outside of the immediate vicinity of the Williams River.
Hamersley decided to concentrate his southern leases near the Williams River bridge and
new prospects in the Champion Bay area finally saw him transfer the Martup lease to
William Cornwall in 1866. Cornwall had previously taken up J.H. Monger's relinquished
lease at Queerearrup and Martup leases. Cornwall who came to the colony as a 'young
emigrant' in 1840 when a lad of 15 years worked initially for JH Monger at York.
Having acquired both capital and experience in Monger's employ, Cornwall saw the
opportunities is the Beaufort area. In 1860 he married Eliza Malone, a young Irish
immigrant. The site of their first home at the Beaufort is not certain, but soon the grand
Beaufort Station homestead was built. By 1862 Cornwall was freeholding land within the
Martup Lease and by 1868 a total of 1040 acres amongst the Martup Hills had been
purchased by Cornwall.
The river pools (including Martup) were included in the Martup lease and provided the
water necessary to run the extensive numbers of sheep owned by Cornwall.
The 100 acre reserve was created to provide secure access to the water for travellers along
the Sound Road. The reserve was centred on the road - the east boundary being the
Martup Pool / Beaufort River and the southern boundary passing through the 138 mile
peg. Early maps did not show the name of the pool in contrast with the Toojeelup Pool to
the south.
The name 'Martup' is derived from the Aboriginal language - mart refers to the large
bones in the hind legs of a kangaroo and humans. Thus Martup is a place pertaining to
this animal or bones thereof. It is also the name of a nearby hill and waterhole (well).
Lake Poorarecup 2013 - Low Cost Camping
Lake Poorarecup is situated near Frankland in the Great Southern Region of Western Australia. It is a lovely camping spot, and we stopped over in March 2013.

Council have resolved to implement camping fees of $10.00 per passenger vehicle/motorbike per day for camping at Lake Poorrarecup during peak periods when caretakers are in residence.
Camping is permitted in designated areas only and campers should report to the caretakers upon arrival to obtain a camping permit.
Please be advised that pets are not allowed at the lake sites.
