Photo Guide to: Santo Tomás de Castilla, Guatemala (Family Tour!)
Visiting Santo Tomás de Castilla, Guatemala on a cruise? This video shows some of the highlights from the country, including some self-led walking and a guided trolley tour. This destination was on a Norwegian 10 day cruise itinerary
Many will suggest that you walk into the actual city from the pier. While this is possible (and we did it) I would not recommend doing this alone. You are VERY obviously a tourist while visiting this town. I never felt unsafe, but most the shop owners were selling actual goods that locals would purchase and did not speak English. We had a Spanish speaker with us, so it was a different experience for us.
This is the one stop on the cruise we did that I would highly recommend paying for a tour. Otherwise there really is only one place to shop (a giant warehouse type structure with a lot of vendors) and that's it. I bought some great stuff here!
We booked the 1.5 hour open-air trolley tour for $25 a person. It was interesting...because this is not a picturesque coastal town, be prepared for jungle views (basically the color green) and city streets. The coolest thing we saw was this incredibly colorful above ground cemetery.
I hope this video is informative!

Hiking the Pacaya volcano in Guatemala (Lava!)
I spent Dec. 24th, 2009 hiking this major active volcano with flowing lava! Note to shoe-wearers: it will melt your shoes!
Pacaya lies 30 kilometres (19 mi) southwest of Guatemala City and close to Antigua. More info:
VLOG 8, SEMUC CHAMPEY in GUATEMALA
Semuc Champey, Guatemala. This natural pools are one of the most miraculous places I visited in my life. It took us 12 hours to arrive to this peace of heaven in Guatemalian jungle and it was another 12 hours to go back to civilization.
Wild untouched nature is very impressive. Sleeping in hammocks in the jungle was an adventure!
Go to Guatemala
The world is a book and those who do not travel read only one page. (St. Augustine)
Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the ones you did. So throw off the bowlines, sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover. (Mark Twain)
