10 Things to do in Matera, Italy Travel Guide Food Video Transcript:
One destination that’s been at the very top of our travel bucket list for a while now is Matera, and on this trip to Italy, we were determined to make it happen!
Nicknamed “the stone city”, Matera has been quite literally dug out of the rock, and it’s a sight you won’t soon forget. Set on the slope of a rocky ravine, the landscape is dominated by cave dwellings, zigzagging staircases, and early churches that hold some incredible frescoes once you set foot inside.
During our visit, we stayed in the “sassi”, which is the ancient town, and in our opinion, the best way to soak in the vibe of this place.
Now in this video, we’re going to take you on a tour of the city and show you some of the things you can see, do and eat when you visit Matera.
Matera is well-known for its rupestrian churches, carved into the rock and covered in frescoes.
We first stopped by Chiesa Rupestre di San Pietro Barisano, which is the largest rock church in the city of Matera.
We wanted to show you the frescoes, so we continued to Convento di Sant’Agostino, a church and convent dating back to the late 16th Century. We started walking uphill via a series of staircases and winding streets, until we found ourselves in front of Matera Cathedral.
The rocky landscape we noticed is called Murgia (MoorJa) National Park and it’s an archaeological site with cliffs, gorges & caves.
Let’s take a quick break to introduce you to Materan cuisine. Like most of the establishments in Matera, this restaurant was set in a cave and we ate pasta, wine & dessert?
We spent a lot of time visiting cave churches, but for a look at how locals lived in these troglodyte dwellings, we visited Casa Grotta.
The Sassi District is a made up of a network of dwellings carved into the steep slopes of the valley walking into the Casa Grotta.
We visited Palombaro Lungo, a massive water cistern that sits directly under Matera’s main square.
After visiting Palombaro Lungo, we also found ourselves in front of the ruins of Chiesa del Santo Spirito. The church sits beneath Piazza Vittorio Veneto where you can make out frescoes on the walls.
Continuing our quest for Materan cuisine, we ended up at Ristorante Nadi - another cave restaurant that we stumbled upon by chance to see if we could get through a 4 course meal.
Our final recommendation for Matera would be to explore the city at night. Matera looks magical between sunset and blue hour and it was a pleasure to wander around with camera in hand.

Hola Amigos! Bienvenidos! Me llama Samuel.
You want to tell us why you're speaking in Spanish?
We have a bit of an exciting announcement. We are starting a new little side project. A Spanish YouTube channel.
I know it is nothing super exciting like moving to a new country or anything like that but yeah we've kind of been toying with this idea for a while because when we went traveling in South America was it two years ago?
We got a whole bunch of subscribers from South America who are asking us for Spanish content. Yep. And also my parents have been asking us for Spanish content.
Your parents have been asking and for those of you who don't know you do speak Spanish. Hello, I do speak Spanish so that is why it kind of makes sense and I mean Sam also wants to learn Spanish so we figured this would be a fun little challenge for you. Also a good way for me to practice my language exactly because I don't get to use Spanish very often.
I've memorized some food so for the time being we're going to focus mostly on city guides.
You're going to be doing a lot of the presenting. I will be kind of be limited to one line zingers.
And I'm going to start I'm going to start today. I'm going to start tonight so I'm going to learn some new words. You have a wonderful little teacher over here. Haha. I do have a teacher.
That is true. And we practice. But anyways yeah I mean if any of you don't know this already you were born in Canada but your parents are both from South America. Your Dad is from Argentina. Your Mom is from Peru.
So you grew up like uh your first when you were really young you learned Spanish before English. I did and I also lived in South America when I was little. I lived in Argentina for 6 years.
I think this is going to be a fun project. We're going to start off with city guides. Yeah. And as my Spanish improves hopefully at some point we'll do a food review. We'll get you more involved.
It would be so cool when I can actually like chip in with full sentences and have like complete coherent thoughts. Yeah. But that is going to take a while and uh yeah I mean it is up to me how much I study. Yeah. And hopefully I can improve.
And if any of you have any like language learning tips because I know a lot of people speak more than one language. For learning a second language what is what do you think are the best tips.
Yeah, so going back to the channel it is actually already up and a few of you have already found us. We haven't really been promoting it but people have found the channel.
Well, we haven't talked about it on camera but we've been putting it on our end screens on our videos and I've been having little pop-ups as well. Okay.

Nightlife in Tokyo, Japan around Shinjuku! (新宿区)
Come join us for nightlife in Tokyo, Japan as we visit the vibrant area of Shinjuku (新宿区) where you find a plethora of tall buildings, neon lights, restaurants, bars, karaoke rooms, arcades and more! Our night kicked off with us just wandering around the busiest sections of Shinjuku marvelling at all the lights, crowds and action.
We spotted the Robot Restaurant which is one of the more popular tourist attractions in Tokyo especially for tourists. Although we didn't go there we wandered around further until we hit up Golden Gai - a section of small alleys with Izakaya (small bar/restaurant). It would have been fun to have a drink there but we couldn't film so we ended up finding a more rowdy place a few streets over where we drank beer and ate Takoyaki.
After the food and drinks we decided to go check out an arcade where drumming and Mario Kart consumed our attention for a while. Our stop for nightlife in Tokyo was at a karaoke where we enjoyed singing and didn't enjoy the two worst adult beverages of our lives.
Overall it was a great evening of nightlife in Tokyo and we especially enjoyed getting to see Shinjuku at night having spent quite a bit of time in that area by day.

Nightlife in Tokyo, Japan around Shinjuku! (新宿区) Travel Food Video Transcript:
We are here in Tokyo and it as night and that can only mean one thing. Nightlife! We are here in Shinjuku (新宿区) to experience the nightlife.
This is an area that is known for its nightlife. It is full of bars and clubs and discos. It is a Friday night we finally decided we need to get out. We're going to show you what Tokyo nightlife is all about.
First impressions here. So far lots of flashing lights. There is a lot of music and down some streets with bouncers trying to lure you into their restaurant or their bar. I assumed this would be an area where you see lots of young people and also lots of foreigners. I'm also seeing a lot of like men in business suits and people who look like they've just left work on a Friday ready to blow off some steam.
Our quest for food has brought us over to Golden Gai (新宿ゴールデン街).
Well it is completely different from the area where we were just visiting. Which is like neon central and big pedestrian walkways. This is much smaller. So you've got tiny little alleyways. And you've also got these really intimate Izakayas (居酒屋). Which is basically these tiny little bars and there is only a few stools in each of them.
we found kind of rowdy little bars slash Izakaya (居酒屋) and they had a free table and we've been walking around for a while so we're like yeah let's go in there.
So we ordered two ice cold beers. Ice cold beers! Cheers! And we've got Takoyaki (たこ焼き) coming.
I have to say the nightlife here in Shinjuku (新宿区), after like wandering around for a little while, popping into some bars and having some drinks. It is an absolute assault on your senses. We've got so many things vying for your attention. You have those neon lights, you have people trying to lure you into their bars. You have just the sheer crowds. It is absolute madness but I kind of love it.
Where are we now? Alright guys this is my idea of a fun night out in Tokyo at an arcade. Mine too.
next up the plan is Karaoke. We had to go to like 3 different places to find one that has availability on a Friday night at a reasonable price. At a reasonable price.
that concludes our tour of nightlife here in Tokyo. Yeah. Particularly, Shinjuku (新宿区). Hope you guys enjoyed it. It has been a long night. It has been a long night. We don't do this very often but it sure was a lot of fun. We did a lot of different things. I think our favorite thing maybe was just walking around and just seeing what it is all about. Soaking it all in.

Музей-заповедник «Изборск» | Museum-reserve Izborsk
Изборск (в разг. речи также употребляется название Старый Изборск — для отличия от деревни Новый Изборск) — деревня в Печорском районе Псковской области России, один из древнейших русских городов, упоминаемый начальным летописцем как центр кривичского населения вместе со Смоленском и Полоцком.
В 1330 году псковским посадником Шелогой было завершено строительство мощной каменной крепости, которая выдержала десятки вражеских осад и сохранилась до наших дней, являясь выдающимся памятником оборонного зодчества Древней Руси.
Крепость на Жеравьей горе имеет форму неправильного треугольника со скругленными углами. С двух сторон она почти неприступна из-за крутых склонов, с напольной, юго-западной стороны были выкопаны рвы.
Стены и башни крепости построены из местной известняковой плиты на известковом растворе. Прясла стен с внешней и внутренней стороны крепости выложены слоем регулярной кладки, а внутри забутованы плитой на глиняном растворе. Площадь территории крепости составляет 2,4 га, протяженность стен 623 метра, их высота от 7,5 м — 10 м, средняя толщина — 4 м. Диаметр башен в плане −10-12 м, высота 12-19 м, средняя толщина стен башен — 3 м.
Крепость была мощным оборонительным сооружением своего времени, сыгравшим огромную роль в обороне Северо-Запада Руси, в частности Псковской земли, которая с середины XIV века стала независимой от Новгорода Великого. Все попытки Ливонских рыцарей овладеть Изборском оказались безрезультатными.
Никольский собор построен у главного входа внутри крепости — это одноапсидная постройка с очень толстыми стенами, сложенными из плитнякового камня. Центральный куб храма увенчан одной главой на мощном барабане, который украшен двумя простыми орнаментальными поясами.
Точной даты постройки храма нет, в Псковских летописях собор впервые упоминается под 1341 годом. В 16-17 веке к собору с юга пристраивается бесстолпный одноапсидный придел Спаса Преображения.
Об особом значении Изборска и его главного храма говорит тот факт, что при учреждении в 1589 г. Псковской Митрополии ее глава получил титул митрополита Псковского и Изборского. Никольский храм стал кафедральным собором.
Храм является действующим с момента освящения по настоящее время.
В 1966 году в Изборске снимался фильм «Андрей Рублёв».
В настоящее время — туристический центр. Государственный историко-культурный и природно-ландшафтный музей-заповедник (с 1996 года).
Словенские ключи - находятся недалеко от Изборской крепости на береговой террасе Городищенского озера, иногда назывались ключами Двенадцати апостолов.
Первое письменное упоминание об этих источниках относится к семнадцатому веку. Бьют ключи не менее тысячи лет. Это источники карстово-трещинного типа. Забор воды осуществляется на территории трёх-четырёх километров. Проходя через известняк и слои глины, вода фильтруется, очищается, но в ней остается много кальция и минеральных солей. Минерализация воды достаточно велика, как и мощность источников, ежесекундно выбрасывающих до четырёхсот литров воды.
