The Vietnamese refugee experience is a part of Vietnamese history that must be remembered and shared. After the fall of Saigon, millions of Vietnamese people fled the land and went to the seas. Some paid the ultimate price, while others were sent to refugee camps throughout Asia. Galang in Indonesia was one of the largest refugee boat people camps. Some people have spent almost 10 years there awaiting a new parent country in the west, such as America, Canada, Australia, or Denmark. Today, Galang Ex Vietnam Camp is a sleepy tourist attraction that rarely gets any visitors. Luckily, I met Abu Galang, who grew up here and hung out with the Vietnamese kids. He showed me around and gave a more thorough tour and answered many of my questions. Either way, this experience was eye opening for me and allowed me to at least be where the refugees were. Second generation Vietnamese people must take note of such history.
Thank you to everyone who contributed to make this video possible.

First Time to Batam? Guide to Luxury Solo Travel
Welcome to the complete luxury guide for all the best of what to do, eat, see, local wines to try, and where to stay on Batam. It’s been a long time since I’ve visited an island that was so misunderstood that the tales of my adventures has surprised literally every single person I’ve told! From a tourism standpoint, the island is at a turning point … expanding its offering to the new onset of global travellers and it’s really exciting. Batam and each of the six islands connected by bridges still feel mostly untouched by tourism and it’s a traveller’s dream. There is a ton to see, do, and eat and amazing spots to tuck in for cocktails-fuelled sunset sessions! Come along with me for 10 days as I explore Batam from head to toe and share the best of what I uncover.

Special thanks to everyone who helped me this sudden documentary into a reality, from the people who graciously shared their stories, pictures, and poetry to the friends who helped me with translations.
Disclaimer: This documentary was not meant to insight any political hatred. Rather, its intentions were to remind, record, and reveal the past lives and history of Vietnamese people. If we don’t document history, it will be lost forever. Please stay positive and focus on the people who matter.
Vietnamese is not my first language and after translating and subtitling this video, I realized that I still have a lot to learn. Therefore, I am sorry if any translations are lacking. Many things can and are lost in translations. Subtitling is an art in itself. One that I’m not particularly good at. Either way, thank you for watching and thank you for caring about the plight of the Vietnamese boat people.
I was invited to a reunion of Vietnamese boat people who were not granted asylum or resettled. They returned to Vietnam and here are some of their stories.

River rafting is an activity that everyone needs to do when they are in Ubud. At around 25 dollars this is the best bargain deal you can find on an attraction in Bali. The scenery was spectacular. Remember to wear shoes or sandals even though they might tell you you don't need them. Bring sandals. Seriously. Afterwards my friends and I left Ubud and rented motorbikes in Seminyak and got a glimpse of what Bali beaches looks like. At night we randomly stumbled upon a nasi little shop and ate random but delicious Indonesian food.
