Most of the French foods we sampled would be found at any kind of local French bakery (pâtisserie).
50 Things to do in Paris, France | Top Attractions Travel Guide Travel Video Transcript:
Hello, and welcome to Paris. This week we are exploring the city of love, city of lights and city of art. This video will be showing you the top 50 things to do while you visit Paris.
So we're wrapping things up here. What would be your one tip for visiting Paris? Well, I have recently spent a whole ten days here in summer. I would say that if you really want to visit the art galleries, the museums and all of the main attractions you should probably avoid summer and like either come in the spring or the fall or even winter. Because the lines are insane and sometimes you have to wait like an hour and a half or two hours.
So how about you? What are your final thoughts on Paris? So my finals thoughts is obviously Paris is one of the top cities in the world in terms of attractions. There is going to be garbage, there is going to be lines, there is going to be some areas that are a bit of an eyesore. But there is also a lot of beauty and there is also a lot to do here.
And that concludes our guide of the top 50 things to do and see in Paris. We hope you enjoyed watching, and let us know if there are other places you would add to this list.
This is part of our Travel in France series showcasing French culture, French arts, French foods & French cuisine.

5. Church of the Holy Sepulchre
This is considered to be the most holiest site for christians and is constructed on the site of Jesus’ supposed tomb also in the city of Jerusalem. It was from this location where Christians believe Jesus was buried and then resurrected. The church has been a major site of pilgrimage since it was built in the fourth century. Despite being damaged by fires and earthquakes, it’s been repaired quite a few time and an extremely sacred place of worship. The pilgrims come also to see a holy relic called the stone of unction which is believed to be the spot where Jesus was prepared for burial. Inside, a shrine lays over the entrance to the cave where jesus was believed to be buried that you see in this photo..
4. Lourdes, France
Located on the foothills of the Pyrenees Mountains in southwestern France, this city is home to many pilgrimages to people following the Catholic faith. In 1870, It’s here where a peasant girl by the name of Bernadette Soubirous allegedly saw the Virgin Mary at least 28 times. The Basilica Rosary is somewhat small but with impressive architecture and surprisingly does not contain the tomb of Bernadette On the 11th of February over 45,000 pilgrims visited this small city of about 15 thousand people and 6 million tourists from all over the world come here. The apparitions took place in a cave known as Massabielle and Bernadette was only 14 at the time. The Catholic Church acknowledged her visions as legitimate. The ones who do decide to make the journey here, hope to witness miracles and even be cured from illnesses or injuries.
3. Sahasralinga
This pilgrimage site is located about 10 miles from the Sirsi Taluk in the district of Uttara Kannada of the Karnataka state in India. Due to Shalmala river drying it up, it exposed thousands of these rocks carved in the language Sanskrit. Historians claim that these rocks were carved by orders of Sadashiva Raya who was the King of Sirsi during the end of the 17th century. These carvings were to honor the hindu god Shiva who is responsible of the creation, upkeep and will be responsible for the destruction of the world. The sheer quantity of the carvings is simply astounding and offer followers of the Hindu faith a place for their prayers.
2. Varanasi Along the Ganges
Considered to be the most holy site in the Hindu religion, Varanasi lies along the sacred Ganges River in India and is the spiritual capital of India. The river itself is considered to be a personified god Ganga Every morning, people wake up and wash their clothes in this river as well throw their dead relatives here as a sacred but not sanitary practice. Thousands of pilgrims each come here to attend religious ceremonies. Open cremations along banks of this river are a common occurrence that burn non stop and which is believed to grant people eternal salvation. The pollution has gotten out of control and has fecal matter content 3 times the safe level for bathing. Despite this, about 60 thousand people swim and even drink the water here each day, Hindus consider it to be a the most pure of all waters.
1.Kaaba, Mecca
15 million visitors partake in what’s known as one of the 5 pillars of Islam known as the Hajj, or sacred pilgrimage, making it by far the most holy and sacred place in the world. Islam requires each muslim to visit this city who is financially capable at least once in their life and is the largest pilgrimage in the world. This is considered to be the holiest place for muslims and The one point 6 billion followers of this religion face to the direction of Mecca Saudi, Arabia each day to pray. The population of the city can triple in size each year during the hajj. Camps are constructed to shelter the pilgrims. So what’s so special about this black cube? According to tradition it was built by the son of Abraham, Ismail built in year 2000 BC and contains a meteorite. It used to be a pagan house of worship until the prophet Muhammad arrived cleared out the icons they had been used it and made it into the house of god. The grand mosque can house hundreds of thousands of people.

INDIA - VARANASI - (PART 2) - BURNING GHAT - BODY CREMATION (Full HD)
In this movie I take you to Varanasi to show you how looks death in India and how the body is being burned (cremation of body)
Ghats in Varanasi are riverfront steps leading to the banks of the River Ganges. The city has 87 ghats. Most of the ghats are bathing and puja ceremony ghats, while a few are used exclusively as cremation sites.
Most Varanasi ghats were built after 1700 AD, when the city was part of Maratha Empire. The patrons of current ghats are Marathas, Shindes , Holkars, Bhonsles, and Peshwes. Many ghats are associated with legends or mythologies while many ghats are privately owned. Morning boat ride on the Ganges across the ghats is a popular visitors attraction.
People from India wish to be cleansed with the holy waters, cremated at the burning ghats with the sacred eternal fire, and then have their ashes tossed into the sacred waters of the Ganges. This allows the soul to proceed directly to heaven, without having to deal with karma and reincarnations.
The amount of wood, not just the type, is critical to ensure complete cremation. If a poor family cannot afford enough wood, and the body does not completely burn, a worker will use a long pole to deftly reposition the limbs over the burning flames.
Near the water’s edge, a huge pile of grey ashes was waiting to be spread onto the holy Ganges. After a cremation, ashes and bits of bone are gathered up and “untouchables” sift them for bits of gold jewelry.
Not everyone is cremated at the Ganges ghats. Children, sadhus (holy men) and pregnant women are considered pure and do not need to be cleansed by the sacred fire. They are simply set adrift on the Ganges. Besides bitten by a cobra and untouchables.
In Hindu traditions, cremation is one of the rites of passage and the Ghats of Varanasi are considered one of the auspicious locations for this ritual. At the time of the cremation or last rites, a Puja (prayer) is performed. Hymns and mantras are recited during cremation to mark the ritual. The Manikarnika and Harishchandra Ghats are dedicated to the cremation ritual. Annually, less than 2 in 1000 people who die in India, or 25,000 to 30,000 bodies are cremated on various Varanasi Ghats; about an average of 80 per day. This practice has become controversial for the pollution it causes to the river. In 1980s, the Government of India funded a Clean Ganges initiative, to address cremation and other sources of pollution along the Ghats of Varanasi. In many cases, the cremation is done elsewhere and only the ashes are dispersed into the river near these Ghats

CHANDANNAGAR : France of Bengal by Tourist Destination
Embracing the banks of the Ganges River, just 30 km north of Kolkata, India is the small, beautiful erstwhile French colony. Chandannagar was established as a French colony in 1673 . Formerly known as Chandannagore, Chandannagar, today, continues to house remnants of French colonization, despite its turbulent past. In fact, though the rest of India won independence in 1947, Chandannagar continued to remain a stronghold of the French till 1950.
Chandannagar Gate:
Constructed in 1937, to mark the Fall of Bastille, the gate has the slogan of the French Revolution Liberté, égalité, fraternité (Liberty, equality and fraternity) etched on it.
Chandannagar Strand:
Situated on the banks of the Ganges, this is a beautiful, well maintained tourist spot. It is beautifully decorated with lights, lush green trees, a huge number of seats for people to spend time and even well studded pavements. The tree-shaded promenade along the river is about 1 km (0.62 mi) in length and 7 meters (23 ft) in width. It is a popular spot for local people and tourists alike, who love to stroll along enjoying the breeze and watching the small boats sail by.
The Sacred Heart Church of Chandannagar (l'Eglise du Sacré Cœur):
It was designed by French Architect Jacques Duchatz. The church was inaugurated by Paul Goethals on 27 Jan. 1884. The church stands for over two centuries to mark the beauty of the architecture during the French period — a good place to visit for the historians and tourists alike.
Chandannagore Museum and Institute (Institut de Chandernagor):
Another important landmark in the town is the erstwhile Duplex Mansion, which serves as the Chandannagar Museum today. It boasts a collection of French antiques (such as cannons used in Anglo-French war, wooden furniture of the 18th century, etc.) which are difficult to find anywhere else in the world.
Chandannagar Cemetery:
The French Cemetery contains 150 tombs and is located on the Grand Trunk Road opposite Lal Dighi (a large lake). Amongst the remarkable people buried there, one can find the tomb of Duplessis, the founding father of French Chandannagar and also the one of pioneering meteorologist Henry Storm Piddington.
Patal-Bari(The Underground House):
The building is another beautiful example of the advancement in the knowledge of architecture and the aesthetic sense of the people of those earlier days. Its lowest floor is submerged in the River Ganges. The Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore frequently visited the place and appreciated a lot about the building. He mentioned Patal-bari in many of his famous novels. The famous social reformer Pandit Iswar Chandra Vidyasagar also stayed in the building. The house was owned by the Zamindars of nearby Mankundu.
Nandadulal Temple:
Nandadulal Temple was built in 1740 by Indranarayan Roychoudhury presents an excellent example of ancient Indian sculptures. It is built in the do chalha style. The temples old idol of Lord Krishna was thrown away into the pond behind the temple by a general .Later the pieces of the idols were fished out and submerged in Varanasi.
Jagatdhatri Puja, Lighting and Procession:
The pomp and show of the Jagadhatri Puja in Chandannagar is very well known all over India. It is heard that Indranarayan Chowdhury introduced the Jagadhatri Puja in Chandannagar even before 1750.The beauty of the festival in Chandannagar is mainly due to the collaborative conception between the French and Bengalis. Remarkable feature remaining its procession, second largest in the world after Rio de Janeiro's, with its magnificent lightings .The Lighting and Procession of this festival brings in a number of tourists from all over the world.
