New Mexico is a constituent state of the United States of America. It became the 47th state of the union in 1912. New Mexico ranks fifth among the 50 United State states in terms of total area and is bounded by Colorado to the north, Oklahoma and Texas to the east.
New Mexico has some of the flattest land as well as some of the most rugged mountains in the country and it was described as The Land of Enchantment. The highest mountain peaks, Wheeler Peak and Truchas Peak are in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains in the north-central part of the state. The Rocky Mountains extend into the north-central part of the state.

Phoenix is the capital of of Arizona of U.S. states. Phoenix is the fifth most populous city nationwide. And the only state capital with a population of more than one million residents. Located in the northeastern reaches of the Sonoran Desert, Phoenix has a hot desert climate. The metropolitan area is known as the Valley of the Sun, due to its location in the Salt River Valley. Phoenix is in the southwestern United States, in the south-central portion of Arizona. Phoenix is the cultural center of the Valley of the Sun, as well as the entire state.
HISTORY
The history of the city of Phoenix begins with Jack Swilling, a Confederate veteran of the Civil War. .Settled in 1867 as an agricultural community near the confluence of the Salt and Gila Rivers. Phoenix incorporated as a city in 1881. It became the capital of Arizona Territory in 1889. In the 1880s, the arrival of the railroad in the Valley was the first of several key events that altered the economy of Phoenix. Phoenix became a trade center, with its products reaching eastern and western markets.
POPULATION
66% of the population of the city identified themselves as Christians, while 26% claimed no religious affiliation. Other religions including Judaism, Buddhism, Islam, and Hinduism collectively make up about 7% of the population.
EDUCATION
Public education in the Phoenix area is provided by 33 school districts. Arizona State University is the largest institution of higher education in the region. The city is also home to numerous other institutions of higher learning.
CLIMATE
Phoenix has a hot desert climate typical of the Sonoran Desert. Phoenix has long, extremely hot summers and short, mild to warm winters. The city is located within the sunniest region in the world. Phoenix receives the most sunshine of any major city on Earth. On average, there are 107 days annually with a high of at least 38 °C including most days from late May through early October.
COMMUNICATION
With the establishment of the Southern Pacific rail line in 1926, the opening of the Union Station in 1923, and the creation of Sky Harbor airport by the end of the decade, the city became more easily accessible.
Phoenix is served by Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport, one of the ten busiest airports in the United States. The airport is centrally located in the metro area near. The airport serves more than 100 cities with non-stop flights. Valley Metro provides public transportation throughout the metropolitan area, with its trains, buses, and a ride-share program.
GOVERNMENT
In 1913, Phoenix adopted a new form of government, switching from the mayor-council system to the council-manager system, making it one of the first cities in the United States with this form of city government, where a city manager supervises all city departments and executes the policies adopted by the Council. The city council consists of a mayor and eight city council members. While the mayor is elected in a citywide election.
ECONOMY
The early economy of Phoenix was focused primarily on agriculture and natural resources. Its canal system led to a thriving farming community with many of the original crops. The top five employment categories are office and administrative support (17.8%), sales (11.6%), food preparation and serving (9%), transportation and material moving (6.1%), and management (5.8%). Intel has one of their largest sites in the area, employing about 12,000 employees, the second largest Intel location in the country.
