Oslo is the capital and largest city of Norway, and the third largest city of Scandinavia. Oslo is also the demographic, economic and political center of Norway. The history of the city can be traced back over 1,000 years. Oslo was founded in 1048, by the king Harald Hardråde. Oslo, with its approximately 453 square kilometers, is one of the largest capitals in the world by area. Most of this is forest, making Oslo a city in close contact with the nature surrounding it.

Oslo is a modern and diverse city, and each of its boroughs bring something special to the table. All of them can be reached on foot, by public transportation or with a bicycle. Oslo is a great city for cycling, with modest distances between major hubs and attractions.

As far as shopping goes, the capital of Norway offers plenty to keep the keen shopper happy, with everything from the latest international trends to modern Norwegian designs and local handicrafts. The main shopping areas in Oslo are the city center around Karl Johans gate, Bogstadveien and Hegdehaugsveien in Majorstuen, Frogner with Bygdøy Allé, and Grünerløkka.

Following the latest reform of January 1, 2004, the city is divided into fifteen boroughs (bydeler) that are to a considerable extent self governed. For convenience, the city can be divided into six larger districts.

Architecture in Oslo may at first seem dull. Unlike for instance its Swedish counterpart, Stockholm, downtown Oslo has only scattered monumental buildings where in particular the Parliament-Palace axis (upper part of Karl Johan Street) has a certain Parisian grandeur. The charm of Oslo can also be found in the affluent inner-city suburbs of for instance Frogner and Fagerborg as well as above St.Hanshaugen park. Northern Europe has a distinct wooden house tradition. Wooden houses are not allowed downtown, but these charming houses can be found in large numbers in villa suburbs such as Bygdøy and Holmenkollen, or former workers' areas such as Rodeløkka, Kampen, Vålerenga, Damstredet, Hellerud or Telthusbakken. Oslo also has many exciting building projects and a huge part of the city's waterfront will in a few years have changed.

Driving on the RV7, the road through Hallingdal, starting in the neighborhood of Flå and ending in the neighborhood of Gol. Hallingdal is a valley and traditional district in Buskerud county in Norway. It consists of the municipalities of Flå, Nes, Gol, Hemsedal, Ål and Hol.
The video ends with a beautiful painting, created by Johan Christian Dahl, in 1844, named: View over Hallingdal.

The inhabitants are often called Hallinger (singular halling). Halling dialect (Hallingdialekt) is a dialect from Hallingdal. It belongs to a dialect group traditionally spoken in Norwegian mountainous areas.
Hallingdal has developed its own brand of the rosemaling, with a distinct symmetric style, different from the style in Telemark and Valdres. The valley also fostered a number of known painters during the 18th and 19th century.
The music of Hallingdal is traditionally dominated by the Hardanger fiddle, which was taken into use from c. 1750. The dance tunes of the valley have a distinct pattern, following three different lines of tradition, one in the south, at Nes, and two in the area of Ål. The tunes from Ål are recognized by a distinct rolling on the fiddle-bow, and the tunes are fairly old.
From early on, Hallingdal also developed a tradition for langeleik, partly replaced by the fiddle. The folk music tradition is held alive even today in the valley. After the building of the railway line Oslo-Bergen, the accordion came into use, and many fiddle tunes were adapted to the new instrument -- usually a diatonic button accordion. Hallingdal is the only area where the old fiddle music were adapted like this in local tradition.
Halling is the name of an old folk dance that is traditionally used in Norway. Each dancer is alone, in contrast to the more common couple's dances. The climax of the dance is known as thrown Halling, where the goal is to kick down a hat from a stick. The dance is often called Lausdans meaning loose in Hallingdal and Valdres, but known as the Halling in most other valleys.
The parents of Norwegian romanticist painter Hans Gude lived in Hallingdal until 1852, and Gude painted many of his works there.

Hopperstad Stave Church / Stavkirke de Hopperstad (Norway/Norge)

(EN) Hopperstad Stave Church is a stave church, just outside the village of Vikøyri in Vik Municipality, Sogn og Fjordane county, Norway. The church is currently owned by the Society for the Preservation of Ancient Norwegian Monuments. The two old parishes of Hopperstad and Hove was abolished in 1875, and replaced by the new, united, Vik parish. The new Vik Church was finished in 1877, and the two middle age churches of Hopperstad and Hove have sice then been museum churches. Vik parish is a part of Indre Sogn deanery in the Diocese of Bjørgvin.
The stave church is assumed to have been built around the year 1130 and still stands at its original location. In 1997, a series of samples from the logs were collected for dendrochronological dating of the church. A total of seven samples produced an estimate for the construction ranging from 1034 to 1116 and resulted in no definite conclusion. The only possible conclusion is that this is one of the oldest stave churches still standing.

The Bergen Line or the Bergen Railway is a 371-kilometre (231 mi) long scenic standard gauge railway line between Bergen and Hønefoss, Norway. The name is often applied for the entire route from Bergen via Drammen to Oslo, where the passenger trains go, a distance of 496 kilometres (308 mi). It is the highest mainline railway line in Northern Europe, crossing the Hardangervidda plateau at 1,237 metres (4,058 ft) above sea level.

Baby girl born with a trunk worship as Lord Ganesha

A baby girl born with a 'trunk' has become the center of attraction in a village in Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh. The family gave her name Laxmi. People are flocking to see her believing that she is an incarnation of Lord Ganesha. Devotees spoon fed her to get the blessings from her.

Ganesha is always portrayed with an elephant’s head, he is the personification of all intellectual activities, his large head and tummy symbolize his ability to store a large amount of knowledge (hence the proverbial “memory of an elephant”), his large ears gather information, and his long trunk can seek out knowledge even in the most inaccessible places.

The child has a protuberance between her two eyes which people believe resembles the trunk of Lord Ganesha.

The people from far places have swarmed the modest house of a family of labourers to get a glimpse of the 'divine' baby.
This girl is the fourth child in the family and perfectly healthy.

Some people believe this baby is an incarnation of Lord Ganesha.

People haven't stopped coming in since the news of the birth of the 'divine' baby spread.

According to doctors this protrusion is a result of gene mutation which can be caused by malnutrition and increased pollution levels.

If the family chooses, they can go for a corrective surgery for the child at a later stage in life.

Ringebu Stavkyrje / Ringebu Stave Church / Die Stabkirche zu Ringebu

(EN) Ringebu Stave Church is a stave church located in Ringebu in Ringebu municipality, Gudbrandsdal, Norway. Built in the first quarter of the 13th century, and dated according to coins found during archeologic surveys.
The church is first mentioned in 1270, although it could be older.
It was rebuilt into a cruciform church around 1630 by master-builder Werner Olsen and in 1631 received its characteristic red tower. Of the original church only the nave remains, with free-standing posts in the inner area.
Later restoration brought it back a bit closer to its original shape in 1921.
The church was painted in 1717, but only the lower half of the walls were done, since the ceiling at that time was lower. At one point the church was painted white within, but during the restoration work in 1921 the church interior was restored to its original colouring.
There have been some archaeological surveys of the ground under the church. The last one took place in 1980 - 1981. These surveys have resulted in the finding of about 900 old coins, mostly from the medieval times, especially from the period 1217 - 1263.
Post holes from an older church has also been found. The post church is assumed to be a forerunner of the stave church. The earth-bound posts of these churches were planted directly into the ground, and therefore they were exposed to humidity which caused them to rot over the years. (Wikipedia)
