Dan Prescher takes us on a tour of an open-air mercado in the town of Grecia in Costa Rica's central valley.
Every town in Latin America has a mercado...a place where you go to buy fresh produce and meat, rice, tortillas, and anyone kind of food you might want or need.
There are little restaurants (called sodas in Costa Rica) with delicious homemade food—eat your fill for a buck or two and wash it down with a refreshing freshly squeezed juice.
In the mercado, you can also buy clothes, shoes, appliances, CDs, jewelry, livestock, you name it—one-stop shopping of a style that's now been replicated by the big box stores of the first world.
But in our opinion, no big box store will ever capture the ambience of the mercado. Come along with Dan Prescher and check out this one in Costa Rica's Central Valley town of Grecia.
