Greiz is a town in Thuringia, and it is the capital of the district of Greiz. Greiz is situated in eastern Thuringia on the river Weiße Elster. As with other nearby settlements, the place name is of Slavic origin and means Gradec. It was first mentioned in 1209. The prime location of Greiz at the river Weiße Elster and the stream Göltzsch made it a fast-growing town. It kept expanding during the last 1000 years. Castle Colditz is a Renaissance castle in the town of Colditz near Leipzig, Dresden and Chemnitz in the state of Saxony in Germany. The castle is between the towns of Hartha and Grimma on a hill spur over the river Zwickauer Mulde, a tributary of the River Elbe. It had the first wildlife park in Germany when, during 1523, the castle park was converted into one of the largest menageries in Europe. The castle gained international fame as the site of Oflag IV-C, a prisoner-of-war camp during World War II for incorrigible Allied officers who had repeatedly escaped from other camps.

Am 30. April 2012 veranstaltete die Privilegierte Schützengilde Dommitzsch das zwölfte Dommitzscher Maibaumfest.
Der Maibaum wurde mit Unterstützung der Privilegierte Schützengilde Belgern 1478, der Schützengilde Melpitz 1813 und musikalischer Begleitung der Schalmeienkapelle der Freiwilligen Feuerwehr Großwig (Bad Schmiedeberg) auf den Marktplatz gebracht. (2:55) Nach dem Schmücken und Aufstellen des Baumes (4:54) führten Dommitzscher Grundschüler den Maitanz auf. (7:36) Anschließend wurden vom Frauenchor Dommitzsch einige Volkslieder vorgetragen, bevor die Gast-Schützen mit Ihren Böllerschüssen die bösen Geister vertrieben. (11:21) Nun kam ein weiterer Höhepunkt des Festes.
Die Dommitzscher Schützen dürfen sich nun „Privilegierte Schützengilde Dommitzsch nennen. Historisch waren derartige Privilegien z.B. das Recht Bier zu brauen. Da dies in der heutigen Zeit nicht mehr möglich ist, wurde ihnen die Ehre zuteil, jährlich den Maibaum auf dem Dommitzscher Markt aufstellen zu dürfen. Dieses Privileg wurde Urkundlich vom Stadtoberhaupt, Harald Koch, bestätigt.
Die musikalische Unterhaltung der Schalmeienkapelle der FFW Großwig (13:37) wurde später von der Diskothek HiFi abgelöst die bis in den Morgen den Tanz in dem Mai begleitete.
