Haida Gwaii (Queen Charlotte Islands), British Columbia - beautiful wilderness
Haida Gwaii, is an archipelago approximately 45-60 km off the northern Pacific coast of Canada. Part of the Canadian province of British Columbia, the islands were formerly and are still commonly known as the Queen Charlotte Islands.
Haida Gwaii consists of two main islands: Graham in the north and Moresby Island in the south, along with approximately 150 smaller islands with a total landmass of 10,180 km2. Other major islands include Anthony Island, Burnaby Island, Alder Island and Kunghit Island.

Why were the Haida compared to the Vikings?
I came up with BeKeSe (Best Kept Secrets) to draw everyone’s attention to lesser-known wonderful things other people have created over the years, whether it is a building, clothing, a legend, a tradition, a village, or an entire country.
BeKeSe is not just about traveling to see something, but to feel the creative energy, even from your couch. I chose the ones I absolutely love. Many of them are places of mystery, secrecy, magic, legends, and allure. While the videos are edited by me only some of the photographs are taken by me. I am grateful to the others that have contributed.

Haida Gwaii, also known as the Queen Charlotte Islands, is an archipelago off British Columbia’s west coast, in Canada. Wildlife-rich Gwaii Haanas National Park Reserve and Haida Heritage Site includes remote islands and temperate rainforest. Centuries-old totem poles stand in the remains of the Haida Nation village known as SGang Gwaay Llnagaay. Naikoon Provincial Park, on Graham Island, has trails and beaches.
Hells Gate is an abrupt narrowing of British Columbia's Fraser River, located immediately downstream of Boston Bar in the southern Fraser Canyon. The towering rock walls of the Fraser River plunge toward each other forcing the waters through a passage only 35 metres wide.
Squamish is a town north of Vancouver, in British Columbia, Canada. It's at the northern tip of the island-dotted Howe Sound, and surrounded by mountains like the Stawamus Chief, a huge granite monolith.

It’s incredible where you can end up by just driving. An hour or twenty, and before your very eyes the mountains can split to expose valleys and the continent can give way to the ocean; an infinite playground of sorts arises around every bend. Road trips embody the saying, it’s not about the destination but rather the journey. And with bikes in tow, it becomes not if you can get somewhere but are you willing?
We opened eyes and laid sights on a route that took us from Whistler to Farwell Canyon, to Smithers, to Terrace and finally to Haida Gwaii. Over the course of two weeks, we lived off the road while exploring new trails of all varieties. 4x4ing, mountain passes, and beach drives linked where we stopped to mountain bike and the result was an unforgettable adventure.

We spent three weeks on a road trip from Victoria BC to Haida Gwaii BC. Video #1 of this series covers the 10 days we took driving up to Prince Rupert to catch to ferry over to Haida Gwaii. Places we stayed at along the way are The Chief in Squamish, Marble Canyon Lake, Farwell Canyon, Quesnel, Fraser Lake, Smithers, Kitimat, and Finally Prince Rupert. Total distance traveled 1,700kms
