Top 10 Worst Places to Live in England
Get more Tips here! destinationtips.com
According to ilivehere.co.uk, which has been compiling this list for more than a decade, with the votes from thousands of readers, these are the WORST places to live in England.
10: Blackpool
Once famed for its golden mile, Blackpool now conjures up images of drunken stags and hens, falling over in the street and spewing on themselves, before retiring to a grotty seaside B&B.
9: Oldham
The most deprived town in England according to the ONS, where the streets have been described as “graffiti covered, fly-tipped shells of what they once were”.
8: Sunderland
has the highest rate of teen pregnancies in Europe.
sexual offences, violent crime and theft are all on the up and are higher than the national average. (I’ve seen policemen on pedal bikes chasing chavs in stolen cars. You might not believe it but I really have seen it!)
7: Gravesend
One voter comments: I have lived in Gravesend all my life. I have visited many other crap towns across Kent like Lewisham, Dartford, Chatham and so on and not one so far, has even came near to being as chav infested as Gravesend.
6. BRADFORD
A Commenter says: Bradford is literally hell on earth. The city centre resembles a squalid cess pit, full of monstrous partially demolished 60’s concrete office blocks, Pound shops, amusement arcades, prostitutes, heroin addicts, Eastern European car-jackers, Asian drug dealers, pre-pubescent mums and mad alcoholic tramps having arguments with themselves.
Being the sixth largest city in the country, in terms of population, it now boasts another famous serial killer...
5: ROCHDALE
One in seven people in Rochdale had no qualifications at all. Weekly earnings were £413 on average last year, compared to £676 in London.
4. SCUNTHORPE
A town once voted the least romantic place in the country.
Apparently Maccy Ds is a chav’s staple diet. Well the small town of Scunthorpe has 3.
3. LUTON
One commenter points out; on Christmas day the local McDonalds gets busier every year”
Black, White, Asian it doesn’t matter, everyone looks like they’re trying to escape or have given up hope on life itself.
2. KINGSTON UPON HULL
based on official government statistics, Hull is the worst place to live in England.
1. DOVER
Apparentñy Dover only beat Hull by 16 votes.
One reader comments;
Let us for a moment imagine that the British Isles are the silhouette of an old man. Scotland is his cap, Cornwall his toes, Anglia his curved spine, making Dover his herpes infested s**t-hole.
Which do you think is the Worst Place to Live in England?

The Montauk Point Light is a lighthouse located adjacent to Montauk Point State Park, at the easternmost point of Long Island, in the hamlet of Montauk in the Town of East Hampton in Suffolk County, New York. The lighthouse was the first to be built within the state of New York, and was the first public works project of the new United States. It is the fourth oldest active lighthouse in the United States.[4] Long listed on the National Register of Historic Places, in 2012, it was designated as a National Historic Landmark for its significance to New York and international shipping in the early Federal period.
The site known as Camp Hero, or the Montauk Air Force Station, was originally commissioned by the U.S. Army in 1942. Camp Hero was originally a coastal defense station that was disguised as a fishing village, and its location was chosen to prevent a potential invasion of New York from the sea. Camp Hero was named after Major General Andrew Hero, Jr., who was the Army's Commander of coastal artillery, who died in 1942. Three gun batteries were built at Camp Hero, replacing most of the other heavy guns in the Harbor Defenses of Long Island Sound, which also included Fort H. G. Wright, Fort Michie, and Fort Terry. Two batteries of two 16-inch guns each were built, Batteries 112 and 113 (officially named Battery Dunn).[5] Another battery of two 6-inch guns was also built, Battery 216. All three batteries consisted mainly of a large concrete bunker covered with earth, containing ammunition magazines and fire control equipment. The 16-inch guns were protected by large casemates, the 6-inch guns by shields.

Great Hudson River Paddle
Great Hudson River Paddle

Great Hudson River Paddle at
Following ten highly successful years the Hudson River Valley Greenway is changing the format of the Great Hudson River Paddle from a single end-to-end trip to a series of many types of partner run paddles. The new Great Hudson River Paddle will be modeled on the celebrated Hudson River Valley Ramble and will include short overnight paddles, day paddles, free paddles, paddle races, and any other events our partners dream up.
The next step in the evolution of the paddle will be to prepare a website with a design similar to the Hudson River Valley Ramble's site that will allow partners to directly upload events.
The goals of the change are to get more people out on the Hudson in a safe and fun environment and to bolster local economic development through increased ecotourism. The Great Hudson River Paddle is an annual series of events that celebrate, promote, and document the recreational use of the Hudson River in the early twenty-first century.
The events are scheduled for July 2011 and will take place throughout the Hudson River Valley. Sponsorship opportunities will be available.
Watch this space for information and a link to a new website that will allow you to register your event for the new Great Hudson River Paddle.
2010 GHRP Sponsor Acknowledgments
We would like to take a moment to acknowledge and thank our 2010 sponsors, especially our major sponsors: the New York State Bridge Authority; the New York State Canal Corporation; the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation; and the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation.
The New York State Bridge Authority has provided enormous logistical support for the Paddle.
The New York State Canal Corporation is the agency responsible for creating and maintaining the Canalway Water Trail throughout the New York State Canal System. The Canal Corporation has been a critical partner in the Water Trail effort.
The New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation (OPRHP) has long been a supporter of the Hudson River Greenway Water Trail; currently eleven state park sites are designated as part of the trail. OPRHP has also provided invaluable technical assistance to the Paddle since its inception.
The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC), through its Hudson River Estuary Management and Public Affairs programs, has been a major funding and technical assistance sponsor of the Paddle since its inception. The Hudson River Estuary Management Program is a unique regional partnership designed to protect, conserve, restore, and enhance the Hudson River estuary.Currently ten DEC sites are designated as part of the Hudson River Greenway Water Trail.
Several other state agencies, and many private outfitters, outdoor retailers, local and regional businesses and not-for-profit corporations have worked withe the Hudson River Valley Greenway and the Hudson River Valley National Heritage Area to make this event a success. For a complete listing please see our Sponsors page. We thank all of you for your support for this event. Without each of you we could not make this event happen!
We could not have even begun the Hudson River Greenway Water Trail or the Great Hudson River Paddle without the partnership, support and friendship of the Hudson River Watertrail Association, Inc. Thanks to everyone at HRWA!
Finally the Great Hudson River Paddle is the brainchild of Camilla Calhoun, who oversaw the first two paddles and remains a friend of the Greenway and the Paddle. Thanks Camilla!
