World strongest ocean current in action, Maelstrom Saltstraumen
Saltstraumen is a small strait with the strongest tidal current in the world. It is located in the municipality of Bodø in Nordland county, Norway. It is located about 10 kilometres (6.2 mi) southeast of the town of Bodø. The narrow channel connects the outer Saltfjorden to the large Skjerstadfjorden between the islands of Straumøya and Knaplundsøya. The Saltstraumen Bridge on Norwegian County Road 17 crosses the Saltstraumen.

Saltstraumen has the strongest tidal current in the world. Up to 400,000,000 cubic metres (520,000,000 cu yd) of seawater forces its way through a 3-kilometre (1.9 mi) long and 150-metre (490 ft) wide strait every six hours, with water speeds reaching 22 knots (41 km/h; 25 mph). Vortices known as whirlpools or maelstroms up to 10 metres (33 ft) in diameter and 5 metres (16 ft) in depth are formed when the current is at its strongest. Saltstraumen has existed for about two to three thousand years. Before that, the area was different due to post-glacial rebound. The current is created when the tide tries to fill the Skjerstadfjorden. The height difference between the sea level and the fjord inside can be up to 1 metre (3 ft 3 in). When the current turns, there is a period when the strait is navigable.
The Saltstraumen is popular with anglers, due to its abundance of fish such as saithe, cod, wolffish, rose fish, and halibut. Coalfish is a specialty of the area. The largest documented coalfish of 22.7 kilograms (50 lb) was caught in the Saltstraumen on a fishing rod.
The remains of a 10,000-year-old hunter settlement in the area are the oldest known traces of human settlement in Bodø, and also one of the oldest archaeological discoveries in Norway. These hunters lived on the edge of the ice, attracted by the abundance of fish caused by the strong currents.

We're visiting the town of Locarno, a very pretty little resort town along the shores of Lake Maggiore in southern Switzerland.
The old town has got an extensive arcade – lots of restaurants and ice cream shops, cafés and little stores to poke around in.

You can have some pizza, pasta, choose from a variety of delicious gelato flavors.
The food's Italian, they speak Italian and yet, yes we're in Switzerland.
The market sells all kinds of products, especially the local handmade crafted items. There is fabrics and products in wool, ceramics and wooden objects. You can find some wonderful local foods at the market like fresh cheese, eggs, fruits and vegetables, and some of the vendors sell this secondhand merchandise like old CDs and books, and even music tapes and clothing can be found here. It's all very down to earth, very local. These are casual part-time vendors just selling their stuff.
We notice the paving and the piazza was smooth water-worn stones in various colors, really quite beautiful.
Locarno's old town goes for about six blocks by four blocks so it's not really huge, but it's big enough to enjoy a nice stroll and have a poke around in the art galleries and look in some of the antique stores.
Quite a few modern shop-fronts along with the mix.
And we're going to take a little trip over to the nearby village Ascona. Here too, you can go by boat from Locarno, or you can just take the city bus. It only takes about twelve minutes on the city bus to get over here to Ascona.
Like Locarno, this town has an Italian feeling to it even though we're still in Switzerland.
There really is something very special about this kind of waterfront where you don't have any cars. You've got the lakeside and you've got beautiful buildings with the restaurants and a broad area for pedestrian promenade, and trees and gardens. It seems so classic and typical of your imagination of the ideal waterfront village, but in reality you just don't run into it all that often. There is normally a road and cars or something in the way of it. Here it's all laid out in a perfect setting.
You can see how popular boating is here for fishing and pleasure craft and just cruising. For the visitor it's all part of the picturesque scenery.
We'll also take a bus ride and hike in the nearby valleys.

13. Inlandsbanan
Take a journey through the middle of Norrland along this historic train line, which passes by small mining towns, deep green forests, herds of reindeer and, if you're lucky, the occasional moose along the way. Built during the 1930s and rendered obsolete by 1992, the line has more than enough charm and historical appeal to make up for its lack of speed.

Particularly in the northern reaches, Sweden has some absolutely gorgeous hiking trails, most of which are well maintained and supplied with conveniently located mountain huts along the way. Baby girl born with a trunk worship as Lord Ganesha
A baby girl born with a 'trunk' has become the center of attraction in a village in Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh. The family gave her name Laxmi. People are flocking to see her believing that she is an incarnation of Lord Ganesha. Devotees spoon fed her to get the blessings from her.
Ganesha is always portrayed with an elephant’s head, he is the personification of all intellectual activities, his large head and tummy symbolize his ability to store a large amount of knowledge (hence the proverbial “memory of an elephant”), his large ears gather information, and his long trunk can seek out knowledge even in the most inaccessible places.
The child has a protuberance between her two eyes which people believe resembles the trunk of Lord Ganesha.
The people from far places have swarmed the modest house of a family of labourers to get a glimpse of the 'divine' baby.
This girl is the fourth child in the family and perfectly healthy.
Some people believe this baby is an incarnation of Lord Ganesha.
People haven't stopped coming in since the news of the birth of the 'divine' baby spread.
According to doctors this protrusion is a result of gene mutation which can be caused by malnutrition and increased pollution levels.
If the family chooses, they can go for a corrective surgery for the child at a later stage in life.

ICELAND - Travel Guide | Around The World
Iceland, (Icelandic: Ísland) is a mountainous island nation in the north Atlantic Ocean, located between Europe and North America. Though not part of the continental mainland, the country is considered Nordic European. The name of the country—Iceland—may not be that appropriate: although 10% of Iceland is covered by glaciers, it has a surprisingly mild climate and countless geothermal hot-spots and hot springs. The native spelling (Ísland) is appropriate in English as well.
Iceland is a stunningly beautiful place if you enjoy strange and desolate landscapes. Because it is so close to the Arctic Circle, the amount of daylight varies dramatically by season. The sun sets briefly each night in June, but it doesn't get fully dark before it comes back up again. In the March and September equinoxes, days and nights are of about equal length, as elsewhere in the world. If you go in December, it's almost 20 hours of darkness. Summer is definitely the best time to go, and even then the tourist traffic is still mild. The midnight sun is a beautiful sight and one definitely not to be missed. It is easy to lose track of time when the sun is still up at 23:00. Early or late winter, however, can be surprisingly good times to visit. In late January, daylight is from about 10:00-17:00, prices are lower than in the high season, and the snow-blanketed landscape is eerily beautiful. (Some sites are, however, inaccessible in the winter).
Iceland was first inhabited by Nordic and Celtic people in the 9th century CE - tradition says that the first permanent settler was Ingólfur Arnarson, a Norwegian Viking who made his home where Reykjavik now stands. It is thought that Irish monks had temporarily inhabited the island some years prior to this. The Icelanders still basically speak the language of the Vikings. Iceland has received a great number of immigrants over the last 10 years. In the last 5 years the population of immigrants has doubled. Most of these people (from Eastern Europe and South East Asia) come for employment. Immigrants in Iceland are now well over 10% of the population. Icelanders also continue to use the old Norse patronymic system, which was formerly in use in Norway, Denmark, Sweden and the Faroe Islands well into the 19th century, until their governments decided that their people should adopt a surname.

It's a shame most visitors don't stray far from the capital as some of the most memorable sights in Iceland are further afield. There are many excursions offered by tour companies, readily available from any of the main centres such as Reykjavík and Akureyri. They will fly you around and take you out to the glaciers and to the big volcanoes for a reasonable price. However, the cheapest option is to drive around with a rented car since none of these sites have entry fees.
Blue Lagoon - (Icelandic: Bláa Lónið) (BLAU-ah LONE-eeth) Famous outdoor pool and health centre. The spa is in Grindavík on the Reykjanes Peninsula, south-western Iceland. It is situated approximately 13km (8 mi) from the Keflavík International Airport and 39km (24 mi) from Reykjavík. This geothermal spa in the middle of a lava field with its milky blue water is quite surreal. Pre-booking is required and shall be done well in advance to be sure to get your requested time slot.
Reykjavik airport in downtown Reykjavik (REK) serves ONLY domestic flights and international flights to Greenland and the Faroe Islands. If you are coming from elsewhere you will be landing at Keflavik international airport (IATA: KEF; ICAO: BIKF), located near Keflavík (pronounced /keplavik/) in the southwest of the country about 40 km from Reykjavík. The airport itself is quite barren; if you have a lengthy layover you should bring books or other forms of entertainment.

Carnival Horizon Engine Problems The Carnival Horizon cruise ship is heading to it's home port of New York after suffering an engine issue in Amber Cove Dominican Republic. The ship is travelling at a reduced speed and has already picked up an engine specialist in Grand Turk. It is expected to return to New York on Thurday the day after tomorrow on time so the 4000 passengers can make their flight connections home. The cause of the problem has not been revealed.
