Provinces of Belgium
The country of Belgium is divided into three regions. Two of these regions, the Flemish Region or Flanders, and Walloon Region, or Walloonia, are each subdivided into five provinces. The third region, the Brussels-Capital Region, is not divided into provinces, as it was originally only a small part of a province itself.
Many of the provinces evolved from earlier duchies and counties of the same name and similar location, albeit often with significant shifts of boundaries. At the time of the creation of Belgium in 1830, only nine provinces existed, including the province of Brabant, which held the city of Brussels. In 1995, Brabant was split into three areas: Flemish Brabant, which became a part of the region of Flanders; Walloon Brabant, which became part of the region of Walloonia; and the Brussels-Capital Region, which became a third region. These divisions reflected political tensions between the French-speaking Walloonians and the Dutch-speaking Flemish; the Brussels-Capital Region is officially bilingual.

Patrick UCI Cyclo-cross World Cup: Compton and Nys take a win in Plzen

US-champion Katherine Compton (Rabobank - Giant Off-road Team) and the Cyclo-cross legend from Belgium Sven Nys (Landbouwkrediet-KDL) won the first round of the 2011-2012 Patrick UCI Cyclo-cross World Cup in Plzen, Czech Republic.
Tactical final
In the Elite Men's category Zdenek Stybar (Quickstep Cycling Team) was in the lead going into the last stairway of the final lap just 23 steps before the final corners with Sven Nys and local contender Kevin Pauwels (Telenet Fidea) close on his heels. Nys made a tactical move immediately after the stairway slipping into a narrow gap between a tree and Stybar. It gave him an advantage for the final sprint and allowed him to take the World Cup victory in Plzen, his 44th World Cup win. Pauwels sprinted past a disappointed Stybar, who settled for third in front of his home crowd.
Compton holds off Van Paassen and Nash
British Champion Helen Wyman (Kona Factory Racing) showed her form, leading the pack from the outset in the Women's race on the slightly wet and very fast course in Plzen.
However an acceleration from Compton during the second lap put Wyman in trouble. And from the third lap Compton kept extending her lead with home rider Katerina Nash (Luna Pro Team) battling with Sanne Van Paassen (Brainwash Wielerploeg) for second position. Nash kept gaining ground on Van Paassen but her run ended when she crashed at the end of the penultimate lap. Van Paassen was able to pass Nash who didn't get back in the rhythm right away. Defending World Cup winner Van Paassen grabbed second place behind an impressive Compton. Nash settled for third place.
The 2011-2012 Patrick UCI Cyclo-cross World Cup stays in the Czech Republic next week, moving to Tabor where the youth categories Men Juniors and Men U23 kick off their World Cup season.

Hanka Kupfernagel (born 19 March 1974 in Gera, Thuringia) is a German professional cycle racer. Currently her primary focus is cyclocross racing, however, she has won major road, track and mountain bike races. She has won seven consecutive medals at the UCI Women's Cyclo-cross World Championships, including three gold medals for 2000, 2001 and 2005; the silver medal in 2002 and 2003; and the bronze medal in 2004.
She finished 1st in the year-end UCI world class rankings in 1997 and 1999 winning the 1999 La Flèche Wallonne Féminine in the process. Kupfernagel captured the Emakumeen Bira cyclo-cross race three consecutive years from 1997 to 1999.
In 2007, the three-time world cyclo-cross champion added world time trial champion to her palmares when she won gold at the 2007 UCI Road World Championships Women's Time Trial. She also won the Sparkassen Giro Bochum.
In 2008, she had a very strong cyclo-cross season, winning two [World Cup] races and even though she finished at second place for six times, she had enough point to claim the overall World Cup title. She seemed to be the favourite for the women's race at the 2009 UCI Cyclo-cross World Championships in Hoogerheide, she was not able to defend her title as Marianne Vos beat her during a sprint finish and left her with the silver medal.

Jean-Charles Pichegru (16 February 1761 – 5 April 1804) was a distinguished French general of the Revolutionary Wars. Under his command, French troops overran Belgium and the Netherlands before fighting on the Rhine front. His royalist positions led to his loss of power and imprisonment in Cayenne, French Guiana during the Coup of 18 Fructidor in 1797. After escaping into exile in London and joining the staff of Alexander Korsakov, he returned to France and planned the Pichegru Conspiracy to remove Napoleon from power, which led to his arrest and death. Despite his defection, his surname is one of the names inscribed under the Arc de Triomphe, on Column 3.
