Agriturismo Istria,Croazia - Stancija 1904
Nel cuore dell'Istria, in Croazia, a Smoljanci, in un territorio incontaminato e ancora per certi versi selvaggio e poco turistico, siamo stati ospiti di Dada, il suo vero nome è Drazenka Moll. Ex giornalista che 15 anni fa decide, insieme al marito di comprare e ristrutturare una vecchia casa e altri edifici annessi. Per chi ama la tranquillità è sicuramente il posto ideale. Sono tutti mini appartamenti composti da camera, bagno e zona cottura, per chi vuole fare da se. Si può anche prenotare per pranzo o cena e assaggiare piatti tipici istriani cucinati da lei. Dada parla correttamente inglese, tedesco, spagnolo. L'italiano lo capisce bene ma ha qualche incertezza, superabile, nel parlato. I suoi ospiti sono australiani, svizzeri e tedeschi. E visto che gli italiani ancora non conoscono questa chicca, ve lo presentiamo noi. Da Smoljanci si arriva in 20 minuti al mare dove vi consigliamo di visitare le isole di Brijoni. Buona Vacanza! Stancija 1904 is a century -- old estate, situated in the heart of Istria, in the idyllic village of Smoljanci. With its renewed farm house and apartments, it can accomodate up to 17 persons. Only 15 kilometers away from the sea, the estate offers a traditional hospitality and superb four stars comfort that can be enjoyed throughout the year. Breakfast is served until noon, while a cosy dinner by the fireplace can be enjoyed in a typical Istrian tavern.
Becouse Stancija 1904 is a closed -- type facility, a prior reservation is required.

Zalog in Snow and Cold
After the extremely warm and long autumn, on Friday, December 11th, the wind from the northeast plains brought us the cold and the snow. Next morning we woke into the 3 inches of powder snow and -12 deg. C or 10 deg F cold. After the few successive, almost snow-less winters or with just heavy and wet snow, this was great opportunity to get some snow dust lifting action on the tracks of the Slovenian Railroads (SZ). I grabbed the camera and set off to the nearby suburban town of Zalog where is the biggest SZ classification yard right next to the double track mainline, part of the two European railroad corridors extending from the southern France across the northern Italy, Slovenia, Austria to Slovakia or Ukraine, and from Germany to all of the Balkan states. Alas, the weekend and the economy crises have greatly reduced the usual number of trains which on the on workdays in better times scored up to the 150 trains per day.
Next day the snow was already blown off the tracks and on Monday it was 14 deg C or 57 deg F and raining. The winter action, at least for quite a while, was over.
