Best Time To Visit: All year round, but the ideal time to visit this hill station is July to February.
Location: 80 kms from Nashik & 121 kms from Mumbai, Palghar district, Maharashtra (India).
Being home to one of the rare tribal parts of Maharashtra, Jawhar is among the less explored places in Maharashtra. Even today, tribal communities like Warli, Kolcha and Kukana stay in this region. In spite of having tribal people, a lot of tourists visit this hill station every year. This hill station has dense green forests, exotic valleys & pleasant weather all year round. Jawahar hill station in Maharashtra is located at the height of 518 meters from mean sea level. Earlier it was popularly also called as a ‘Mahabaleshwar of Thane district’ but now this place comes under the newly formed district of Palghar.
Cultural heritage, pleasant climate and scenic beauty of Jawhar have started pulling a lot of tourists to this spot. It is covered by full of thick forest and plenty of fresh air because of which this spot remains pleasant throughout the year. During monsoon, many tourists visit this place to see the splendid lush greenery and splashing waterfalls. Jawhar is a hill station located at an altitude of ~1,500 ft. in Palghar district. It is known for its Warli paintings and lively tribal culture. Places we saw:
Dabhosa Waterfall - Also known as the Dadarkopara Falls, it is situated in the Dabhosa village over the Lendi river. Its height is 300 feet and it is one of the highest waterfalls near Mumbai.
Katya Maruti Mandir - An old temple dedicated to Lord Hanuman. This temple is known as Katya Maruti mandir as it is surrounded by cactus. A view point is created near the temple, which is known as Hanuman Point.
Jai Vilas Palace - It was built by Raje Yashwant Rao Mukane and was the royal residence of Mukane family. Built on a hill top, this palace is a master piece of architecture with blend of Western and Indian styles of architecture in majestic pink stones. The palace has featured in several Marathi and Hindi films.
Khad Khad Dam - The dam is newly built on the Khadkhad Lake and has solved water problems while becoming a popular attraction for tourists.
Shirpamal - The emperor of the Maratha Kingdom Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj had stayed here on the night of 31st December, 1664 en-route to his Surat plunder. This Point was developed by Advocate Rajaram Mukne, president of Jawhar Municipal Council in 1995.
