Jelsa je smještena na sjevernoj i južnoj obali središnjeg dijela otoka Hvara. Prostire se na 121,2 km2. Područje općine kao i cijeli otok ima bogato razvedenu obalu s pripadajućim otočićima, mnoštvom uvala i otoka. Jelsu omeđuju dva najviša otočna vrha, na zapadu Sv. Nikola, a na istoku Hum. Ima blagu klimu, s toplim zimama i ugodnim ljetima, a cijelo područje općine obiluje raskošnim mediteranskim raslinjem.
The town of Jelsa is situated in a bay on the middle of the north coast of the island of Hvar. To the south of the town are dense pine woods on the sloping hills of the island's ridge. Jelsa is the only place on the island with an abundance of fresh water, as a result of which there is more luxuriant vegetation here than elsewhere. The agricultural plain lying to the west of Jelsa is the UNESCO protected world heritage site Starigrad Plain

In July 2018 we rented a boat in Kaštela and travelled around some beautiful islands, visited great cities/towns - Korčula, Vrboska, Jelsa, Sveta Nedjelja and much more.
We were there with our kids Michael and Matej. They really enjoyed jumping to the sea even if the sea below you is so deep...somewhere more than 80 meters.
