GREECE: EXPLORING the beautiful BEACHES, ISLAND of CHIOS (ΧΙΟΣ), what to see
SUBSCRIBE: - Let's go to the beautiful Greek island of Chios (in the Aegean Sea) and let's visit two of the most popular beaches. First we will visit Agia Fotini which is a pebbled beach with a lovely family atmosphere with delicious taverns lining the coast. Then we will visit Mavros Gialos, its name means black beach due to the black pebbles on the shore. It is considered the most beautiful beach on the island.
Chios is the fifth largest of the Greek islands, situated in the Aegean Sea, 7 kilometres off the Anatolian coast. The island is separated from Turkey by the Chios Strait.

Exploring Culture-Rich Chios in Greece
In this week's episode we're heading to one of the most cultural and history rich islands in Greece, the beautiful island of Chios! We check out the beautiful medieval villages of Pyrgi, Mesta and Olympoi and we check out a lovely secluded bay at Agia Dynami.
This island was such a surprise for us. From the incredible Mastic cultivation and history to the symmetrically patterned buildings, this was our biggest surprise in the country.
There weren't the breathtaking beaches of Kefalonia or the grand old town architecture of Corfu, but Chios had something special and we can't wait to return one day soon!

Chios Video Map:
Chios is the capital of the province and has about 25,000 inhabitants. The city is a bustling port and commercial center. In the center of town stands the Byzantine museum with a variety of historical artifacts from the island's past. Modern Chios has been built on the site of the ancient city from which there exist a few survived findings – in particular the walls and the theater. The Castle is quite impressive. Originally built by the Byzantines as a fortress, it was significantly extended by the Genovese in the 14th century.

Chios (Greece) and Izmir (Turkey) - Two amazing places in two amazing countries
Chios is an island in Greece, and its very famous from the production of the mastic, a resin obtained from the mastic tree . In pharmacies and nature shops, it is called Arabic gum (not to be confused with gum arabic) and Yemen gum. In Greece, it is known as the tears of Chios, being traditionally produced on that Greek island, and, like other natural resins, is produced in tears or droplets. The island has many amazing beaches and generally it is quite there, perfect for lounge holidays!
Izmir has his own history, the modern name İzmir is the Turkish rendering of the original Greek name Smyrna and Smyrne Σμύρνη).Izmir is a metropolitan city in the western extremity of Anatolia and the third most populous city in Turkey, after Istanbul and Ankara. Izmir is a visit worth!

Chios, Greece - Mesta - AtlasVisual
Chios Video Map:
Mesta is the most remote of the medieval villages, but also the most well-preserved. The appearance of the village and its architecture is unique in Greece. The houses are built side by side without gaps, leaving only two gate entrances to the village. The streets are narrow and most are covered with arches upon which houses are built. The whole village has been designed and built as a maze in order to prevent pirates from easily reaching the center of the village where the most important buildings are located. The oldest monument of Mesta is the church of the Old Taxiarch.
