Exploring Kargil and Around
On my way from Dras to Kargil, I took some time out to visit the LoC Villages around Kargil. Some villages with houses dating back to being almost 500 or more years old.
The Border Road Organisation, along with the Indian Army have preserved the villages and their culture in this areas.
Kargil has long been only a transit point for people travelling to Leh and Srinagar. There are various places in and around Kargil that are still unexplored.
I, myself, have traveled far and wide to experience the various cultures and places here. I will be sharing other videos of Places that are worth visiting once in a lifetime.
P.S. This is an informational video, made to promote tourism in Drass, Kargil and nearby area and to show the place to the people who cannot afford to visit.
Any nuisance or abusive comments will be deleted immediately.
Peace..!!

All About Kargil
Best Places to visit in Kargil.
Suru Valley: Fed by the Suru river, a tributary of Indus, the valley is marked by breathtaking ravines all around. The beautiful town of Kargil situated by the Suru river is picture perfect. The beauty of this town is further enhanced by the majestic views of Nun Kun peaks (highest Himalayan peak on the Indian side of Kashmir).
Pensi La Valley: Known to the locals as the Gateway to Zanskar, this valley offers great views of the snow capped mountains and typical barren landscapes. There is also a beautiful lake in the middle of the valley known as the Pensi La Lake. The lake is famous for its crystal clear cold water, and remains frozen for most of the season.
Museum of Kargil and Central Asian Trade Artifacts: It houses a rare collection of artifacts used when the silk route was a prime road for trading. Not only that, it provides a glimpse into the rich economical history of the region and of its importance as a trade route stop.
Zanskar: Zanskar has it all – from the mountain ranges, the river and the pass, making it strategically important to Kargil. The beautiful landscape of Zanskar can leave you spellbound. Apart from enjoying the beauty, one can also take part in various adventure activities along the Zanskar river.

Dras town of Kargil district also known as 'The Gateway to Ladakh'
Dras is a town in the kargil District of Jammu and Kashmir, India on National Highway 1D (India) NH 1D. It is often called 'The Gateway to Ladakh'. The town shot into prominence in the summer of 1999 following Pakistani army incursions into Jammu and Kashmir. The Kargil War saw the town being shelled by the Pakistani army and the war ended with the Indian Army recapturing the areas surrounding the town and the Kargil district.
Dras is a town in the Kargil District of Jammu and Kashmir, India. It is often called 'The Gateway to Ladakh'. It is at a height of 3230 m or 10990 ft. The mountain ridges however range from 16000 feet to 21000 feet.
The Dras valley starts from the base of the Zojila pass, the Himalayan gateway to Ladakh. For centuries, its inhabitants have been known to have negotiated this formidable pass even during the riskiest period (in late autumn or early spring, when the whole sector remains snow-bound and is subject to frequent snow storms) to transport trading merchandise and to help stranded travellers traverse the pass. They thereby established a monopoly over porterage during the heyday of the pan-Asian trade. A hardy people enduring with fortitude the harshness of the valley's winter, the inhabitants of Dras can well be described as the guardians of Ladakh's gateway.
