It was a super long day, but we still had time to go in an airport lounge! AND it was all worth it to get there because Cappadocia and the cave we booked to live in were both awesome! Originally from Nashville, Tennessee, we got married June 2013 and quickly caught the travel bug! We started “travel hacking” and taking more trips together and finally decided we wanted to travel for one year. After 2 years of saving $ and travel hacking over 2 million miles and points, we sold our cars and apartment and left home January 10, 2016. We started this YouTube channel to share our experiences with friends and family, then decided we really liked vlogging and traveling. So we extended our 1 year trip to THREE years :) Now we have a goal of traveling to 100 countries before Nate turns 30 (which is March 20, 2019)! We are incredibly thankful to do something we love every day. :)
Kars Travel
Kars Travel - Kars is a city in Eastern Anatolia. It is most frequently visited as a jumping off point for travelers going to Ani, but it is a viable destination in its own right for its 19th century Russian imperial buildings, and, of course, its role as the setting for Orhan Pamuk's famous novel Snow.
A small village on the Rideau River in Ottawa, Canada is named Kars in honour of General Sir William Fenwick Williams's defence of the town of Kars, Anatolia during the Crimean War.
Kars is one of the highest cities in Turkey, situated at an altitude of about 2000 metres over the sea level. Complemented with the distance to the sea, this makes the climate of this area the harshest in Turkey with winter temperatures regularly below -30 C at nights (and no warmer than -15 C during the day). There is not a real summer season in Kars, only a short spring in July and August (this is also the wettest season) and a long, bitterly cold, and heavily snowy winter during the rest of the year. Keep in mind that nighttime temperatures can fall below zero degree (Celsius) in any time of the year (even in August).

Saddam Hussein's Palace (NOT what we expected)
We never thought we'd find ourselves having a snowball fight with locals on our way to Saddam Hussein's bombed out palace in the middle of Kurdish Iraq, but that is surprisingly exactly what we did today!
