The Festetics Family is one of the most significant ducal families in Hungary. The family, who was of Croatian origin, moved to Hungary in the 17th century. In 1739 ChristopherFestetics (1696-1768) bought the Keszthely estate and its appurtenances, and chose it to be the centre of his estates. Take a tour of Festetics Castle in Hungary -- part of the World's Greatest Attractions travel video series by GeoBeats.
One of the most significant sights in Hungary; Festetics Castle is boasted as one of Hungary's largest country estates.
This gorgeous Baroque-style castle is nothing short of spacious, housing 101 rooms, including a massive library wing, and concert hall.
Having employed local artisans to construct and model the castle, Festetics is adorned with masterful stonework and inlaid wood flooring.
The interior is just as impressive with many pieces of fine carpentry made by local artist Janos Kerbl.
Even though many of Keszthely's buildings were damaged during World War II, Festetics Castle survived unscathed.
Also known for its park reserve, the English-style gardens behind the palace showcase the work of landscaper E. H. Miller.
Known for its palace tours, museum exhibit, and summer garden concerts, Festetics Castle is a sight of great attraction.
