TRAIN CRUISE - The Cities, Mountains and Seas of Osaka and Wakayama
TRAIN CRUISE - The Cities, Mountains and Seas of Osaka and Wakayama
☆ We start at Kansai International Airport. In the metropolis of Osaka Prefecture, we ride the futuristic rapi:t that resembles something out of a sci-fi movie, enjoy a bite at a local eatery, and travel by the latest streetcar through the suburbs. In Wakayama Prefecture, we journey through rugged terrain to Mt. Koya, 800m in altitude. Here we forget everyday and experience Buddhist monastic life. Then we take local trains down toward the Pacific Ocean. Along the way, we discover a little train that hauls the local mikan harvest through mountainside orchards near the coast. We also meet an old fishing family and a feline stationmaster. Enjoy a journey to the city, mountain, and sea in Osaka and Wakayama.

Tokyo Skytree, World's Tallest Tower, Now Open for Visitors (Part II)
Tokyo Sky Tree is the world's tallest tower at a height of over 600 meters (over 1800 feet). My first video of this magnificent structure was from 2011, when the tower was fully finished but the area around the tower were still being built.
Tokyo Skytree was finally fully opened for visitors in May of 2012. In this two part video, I will present the new views around the Tokyo Sky Tree (in part I) and then take you to the top of the observatory and the views of Tokyo and surroundings from the top of the tower (in Part II).
Nyonindo Temple (女人堂), Koyasan Area, Wakayama Prefecture
Koyasan (高野山) is the headquarters of Shingon sect of Japanese Buddhism and was established by it's founder Monk Kobo Daishi Kukai.
In the ancient times, women worshipers were not allowed into the Koyasan. So, women's worshipers had to offer their prayers from the outskirts of Koyasan. Nyonindo (女人堂) is one of the temples which was specifically built to cater to these women worshipers. There used to many temples like this on the outskirts of Koyasan but now only one of these survived. This is also located on the public transportation route into Koyasan, so you can hop off your Nankai tourist bus and visit this temple.

Trip to Wakayama/Mie12-2010
Yoko and I spent three days in Wakayama and Mie, Dec. 30th to Jan. 1st. We left Nagoya by train to Kii Katsuura Station. From there it was all by tour bus, except for the Turtle Boat to the first hotel.
We stayed at two Urashima Hotels, the first one in Nachi Katsuura-Cho, at the Port of Katsuura. The second one was Urashima Harbor Hotel in Kushimoto. One of them had 5 hotsprings and a couple were in caves with nice ocean views. check out this video:
The tour included Adventure World in Shirahama (its most popular attraction are the baby pandas), Kushimoto Marine Park, Hashikui Rocks and the southern-most place in Shiono-Misaki (Cape Tower), where we had a Tuna burger.
In Kumano we stopped at Nachi Falls and Nachi Taisha Shrine (to go up you have to climb 473 stone steps). Up there we had coffee and cake.
Our last stop before taking the train back to Nagoya was at the natural rock formation called Onigajo (devil's castle) near Kumanoshi Station.
