Krosno, a medieval merchant town still preserves something of its ancient atmosphere. The wine trade road ran here. The most important produce of which was Tokay wine that reached the table of the kings of Europe this way. The historic part of town lies south of the river on a small hill. The excavations of the medieval town hall, as well as old residential houses are still taking place on the market place. One of the wine cellars framing the square was of was of Istvan Dobo, the captain of Eger, the hero of the crescent moon of Eger. Balint Balassi, a relative of Dobo, poet of the border castles escaped here when he was accused of high treason.
The most significant side of Krosno is the 15th century Franciscan church. In the chapel of which, the couple of the local Romeo and Juliet legend were buried. Several similar stories can be encountered all over the world, the one at Krosno is about two half brothers and sisters, Ann and Stanislaw, who is being close relatives, needed papal permission for marriage. Though by the time the boy arrived with the permission, the girl had died. Stanislaw followed her into the grave in grief. The youngsters were in fact, members of the Oswiecim family, medieval landlords of the later Auschwitz. The church clinging to the tower wall was significantly rebuilt in the 19th century.

Getto Żydowskie (Jewish Ghetto)
What is markedly absent from Warsaw contributes as much to its history as anything that has been preserved or reconstructed. Pre-war Warsaw had a Jewish population second only to New York. After the Nazi invasion, some 450,000 Jews were rounded up and forced into the city's so-called ghetto. A 3m (10ft) wall encircled the area, from the Palace of Culture and Science to the Umschlagplatz monument, at the corner of Ulica Stawki and Ulica Dzika. This stark monument marks the place from where Jews were despatched by train to the Treblinka concentration camp, following the Ghetto Uprising of 19 April 1943. Only three sections of the actual wall remain.

Pałac Kultury I Nauki (Palace of Culture and Science)
Varsovians are divided over this prime example of Socialist Realism. For decades , it was, at 231m (758ft), the tallest building in Poland and a reminder of Stalin's bravura - it was a gift from him to the city, built between 1952 and 1955. Detractors still reckon that the best views of the city are from the top of the structure since it is the only place in Warsaw where you cannot see the Palace of Culture and Science. The viewing platform on the 30th floor at 115m (377ft) does indeed give a terrific view over Warsaw. Besides offices, the building houses a concert hall, a multiscreen cinema, three theatres and two museums.

Zamek Królewski (Royal Castle)
Walking through the Royal Castle, you have to remind yourself constantly that most of it was reconstructed between 1971 and 1984, although the darker elements of the décor were salvaged from the ruins. The castle, located on a plateau overlooking the Vistula River, was built for the Dukes of Mazovia and expanded when King Zygmunt III Vasa (Waza) moved the capital to Warsaw. From the early 17th until the late 18th century, this was the seat of the Polish kings. It subsequently housed the parliament and is now a museum displaying tapestries, period furniture, funerary portraits and collections of porcelain and other decorative arts.

Pałac w Wilanowie (Wilanów Palace)
In the mid-1600s, King Jan III Sobieski commissioned Augustyn Locci to build the baroque palace and garden of Wilanów for his summer residence. Construction continued from 1677 until the king's death in 1696. Called Vila Nova in Italian (from which the Polish name is derived), it remained popular with subsequent monarchs. Visitors can tour the interior and the gallery, which features portraits of famous Poles. Artistic handicrafts are on display in the Orangerie. Also here is the Muzeum Plakatu (Poster Museum), the first of its kind in the world. Poles have excelled in the poster arts since at least the end of WWII.

Salonik Chopinów (Chopin Family Drawing Room)
Frédéric Chopin only lived in Warsaw until he was 20 years old, but he is the city's most respected local boy. This drawing room or parlour, in his family's former home, is open to the public; the great composer's heart is interred in a pillar at the Parish Church of the Holy Cross (Kościół Parafialny Znalezienia Świętego Krzyża) next door. His body, however, lies in the Père Lachaise Cemetery in Paris. There is also the new and very high-tech Muzeum Fryderyka Chopina, located in Ostrogski Castle, with exhibits on the different phases of his life and career.

The National park of Ojcow is worth visiting, especially for those spend at least two weeks in can Kraków. The park is only twenty kilometers from the city, were castles, caves, and river valleys framed by hills and forest are waiting to be discovered. Ojcow is the favorite weekend excursion place of the residence of Kraków, so tourists make a better choice if they visit here during the week.
The grill bars and snack bars along the road, which provide the atmosphere of a picnic, are all open it this time also. The twenty one square kilometer national park is easily accessible by bus. Since Poland is traditionally religious catholic country, we can also find places of worship at parks too. This however is not a stone church, but a nicely carve little wooden chapel, opposite the car park. This is the starting point of hikes. From here motor vehicle traffic is not allowed but we can use an environmentally friendly Horse cart. The Horse taxi takes us along a whole row of weekend houses to the ruins of the castle of Ojcow from the fourteenth century.
Many Kraków residences have weekend houses or lots here, where many grow vegetables and fruit as a hobby. They making of Sauerkraut have a long tradition. The cabbage grown in the garden is pickled in barrels or nowadays in clay pots, and use to the making of bigos. In the park or very close to it, we can find four caves to which tourist pass lead. Down there all your round refrigerators like temperature dominate, which means five to seven degrees Celsius. It's worth preparing for this with coats and sweaters.
If we've had to leave our cars anyway, we cannot only go with a good walking tour but we can take the opportunity for a bicycle tour, even with the rented mountain bike. The scenic valley of the Prudnik is winding along the oldest ranges of the era of Krakow. The river valley narrowing to canyons of some places is framed with limestone rocks of various shapes. The valley widens at some places, here it's surrounded by green fields.
While in the white rocks the mouths of caves are various sizes are open. The famous rock formation standing at the east area is called the Krakow gate. The log shaped rock rising behind is called Hercules club. In the last third of the ten kilometer long valley, the view of the romantic castles standing on the steep hill opens up. The Piascoes Kaskala was built on the fourteen century to be a royal watch post, and then it became the possession of a Polish Aristocratic family.
