Leg 10 was our last full leg in the beautiful territory of Nunavut. The word 'Nunavut' means 'our land' in Inuktitut. Throughout our time in the territory, we felt so honoured to be welcomed by the Inuit to their land. As we travelled from Cambridge Bay (Iqaluktuttiaq) to Kugluktuk, we were amazed by the beauty of this Arctic environment and profoundly moved to learn from the Inuit about their traditional knowledge and connection to this land. Thank you to our participants, who came in with their minds open and ready to share. Your commitment to this journey has made an impact we won't soon forget. L’étape 10 était notre dernière étape entièrement dans le superbe territoire du Nunavut. En inuktitut, le terme « Nunavut » signifie « notre terre ». Ce fut un véritable privilège, tout au long de notre périple dans ce territoire, d’être accueilli par les Inuits. De Cambridge Bay (Ikaluktutiak) à Kugluktuk, nous avons été ébahis par la beauté de l’environnement arctique, et touchés d’en apprendre davantage sur les pratiques ancestrales et le lien à la terre que perpétuent les Inuits. Merci à nos participants pour leur ouverture d’esprit et leur générosité. Nous nous souviendrons longtemps de votre contribution à ce grand voyage. Leg 11 Recap - Récapitulatif de l'étape 11

On Leg 11, as we travelled from Kugluktuk, Nunavut to Tuktoyaktuk, Northwest Territories, we were immersed in the history of this region of the Western Arctic and the history of our country as a whole. We were so pleased to welcome Their Excellencies Governor General David Johnston and Sharon Johnston on board the ship from Kugluktuk to Paulatuk. It was wonderful to have them with us for this unique experience. On Leg 11, there were incredibly exciting moments learning about the people who visited the land before us - like when we found a letter from 1986 on Sutton Island. There were also incredibly poignant moments on board the ship as we delved into discussions about reconciliation. We learned so much from the land and from each other on this leg. Lors de l’étape 11 de l’expédition, un périple de de Kugluktuk, Nunavut à Tuktoyaktuk, Territoires du Nord-Ouest, nous avons été immergés dans l'histoire de l'Arctique de l'Ouest et dans celle du pays dans son ensemble. Nous avons été ravis d'accueillir Ses Excellences le gouverneur général David Johnston et son épouse Sharon Johnston à bord du navire pour le voyage de Kugluktuk à Paulatuk. Smoking Hills from the air, Northwest Territories

Low flight over the Smoking Hills in the Canadian Arctic (between Kugluktuk and Inuvik). There are seams of lignite under the tundra that spontaneously ignited many hundreds of years ago upon exposure to air, and have been burning continuously since. The hills, a few hundred feet tall and located on the coast of the Arctic Ocean, smoke like volcanos, and in some cases so much coal has burned that the overlying rock has collapsed on itself.
